There were 3,865 convertible examples of the LeMans for the 1971 model year built by Pontiac, all of which were Sport models. This car was repainted in the current GM laser blue metallic in 2015.  With under 6,000 miles driven since, the paint retains a bright lustre.  Equipment includes a power-retractable black vinyl soft top, quad headlights, a faux side vent on each fender, chrome bumpers and dual exhaust exits.  Chrome rockers, a custom grille and hood scoops add to the muscle car look while the power top is unmarked and in very presentable condition.

The colour-matched staggered Cragar G/T wheels are skinned in Cooper Cobra tires with raised white lettering and installed in 2022, approximately 2,000 miles ago.  Tires are sized 245/60R16 in front and 275/60R16 in the rear.  It should be noted that the car is not equipped with a spare tire.  All body panels were replaced with the restoration and the frame was refinished and painted at that time.

The cabin features bucket seats up front and a rear bench upholstered in black with matching dash and carpets.  The dash also contains period Pontiac silver trim.  A JVC AM/FM/CD stereo is included and will need to be installed by the new owner – same for the JVC speakers.  A blank panel has been installed over where the stock controls for the heater originally appeared.

The three-spoke Pontiac-branded steering wheel fronts a 180 MPH speedometer, an 8000 RPM tachometer and other gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, amperage and oil pressure.  This instrumentation was installed during the restoration, and the odometer showing under 6,000 miles began at zero at that time.

The V8 engine began life as a 327 cubic-inch unit installed in a 1966 Corvette.  Before installation with the restoration, it was rebuilt with larger pistons and hydraulic lifters installed, good to 7000 RPM.  This powerplant is supported by a four-speed manual transmission sending the power to the rear wheels, the four-speed is cast iron and was sourced from a 1971 Corvette, replacing the stock automatic, and is controlled by a Hurst shifter on the floor.  Also in the engine compartment is a custom-made radiator shroud made from Plexiglas and aluminum.  The car has a Holley chrome air cleaner, Moroso valve covers, a chrome Edelbrock oil filler cap and a 3.55 posi rear-end.  The owner believes the car to make approximately 375 – 400 horsepower.  The most recent oil change was 2,000 miles ago in 2022, Royal Purple oil was used.  The underside is almost as clean as the engine compartment, please see gallery photos.

The owner mentions that as well as installing the stereo components, unused weather stripping for both doors is uninstalled and included.  Wiper arms are also uninstalled and included.  Owner mentions a crack in the windshield, approximately 5 inches in length.  A last flaw he mentions is that a spring needs to be reset for the top to sit properly while in the down position.  Many extras accompany the car:  fibreglass GTO style hood with special hinges, spare bumpers, chrome trim pieces, unpainted GTO tribute fibreglass rear spoiler and parts replaced during the restoration.  Mechanical service manual, body service manual, owner’s manual, carburetion and fuel system book, directions for installed American Autowire cluster, folded 3’ x 3’ wiring diagram sheet, fuel tank and exhaust system manual, and receipts from the restoration estimated at a quantity of 100 also accompany the car.
