1992 Jaguar XJS V12 Coupe

This is a 1992 Jaguar XJS V12 Coupe in very nice condition.  The XJS had a long run from 1976 through 1996 and the later models are often more desired by collectors, the coupes all feature a 2+2 layout.  This car shows obvious signs of good treatment over the years, without modifications and it comes with a clean Carfax report which is included in the photo gallery.

It is a very clean example with only the slightest of cosmetic imperfections on the exterior, both the body and underside – consistent with its low odometer reading of under 104,000 km.  This XJS also comes with extensive recent work and its caretaker was wise enough to snap some photos of freshly installed parts.

CCC Back Lot price $15,000 + Buyer Premium 4.99% (Taxable)

The Silver Frost Metallic (Jaguar code MDK) paint is original and in very nice condition.  For 1992, the XJS was treated to a facelift and dropped the hyphen between the “J” and “S”.  The most noticeable new feature was the taillight design and configuration; side rear windows appeared enlarged despite using identically-sized panes as previously and the buttresses, definitely a part of XJS character, remained.  The factory Crosslace Mesh wheels measure 15” and are free from scuffs.  Grippy Kapsen Touring Max+ rubber measuring 215/70 is installed at all four corners with 2017 date codes to mean that they have rolled under 3,000 km.  Mouldings and brightwork all display well while all glass is embossed with the familiar XXX Triplex label, well-known to Jaguar owners.  One flaw we note is that the power function of the antenna is non-functional and it must be raised and lowered manually.  Other grand-touring accoutrements on this coupe include the Euro-style flush headlights, fog lights and twin chromed exhaust tips.  Lenses and emblems are all in excellent condition, though we did observe a very small dent in the passenger door – photographed with a twonie for perspective, in the gallery.

Inside is very clean and the colour of the Connolly leather is Savile Grey (Jaguar code LDY), with matching carpets.  Wood veneer is in wonderful condition and one must look very closely to find any hints that this was installed 30 years ago.  Factory floor mats remain and the photo gallery shows photos of mats being pulled up to illustrate the clean surface underneath. As with any XJS, this coupe is very well appointed:  air conditioning, power windows, central locking, power seats, power mirrors, airbag four-spoke steering wheel, full instrumentation including tachometer, cruise control, digital clock, AM/FM cassette stereo with trunk mounted CD player and a trip computer are all on offer.  Even the console storage, glove box and trunk are exceptionally clean.  We do note some normal wear on both front seat bottoms.

Under the bonnet is found the powerplant that makes this XJS exquisite.  Though many later XJSs were equipped with straight-six engines, this car boasts a 5.3 litre V12.  It is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels.  Still a very good runner today, this engine was factory rated at 263 HP (5350 RPM) and a generous 288 lb.-ft. of torque (3200 RPM).  Recent work (2022) on this XJS includes 4 new shocks; new suspension bushings; brakes at all four corners; new battery; coolant flush and fill; brake fluid flush and fill; air filter; new belts; wheel balancing and four-wheel alignment – this car runs and rides almost as new.  Underside photos in the gallery show off some of the new components as well as a very clean underside; undercoating service is noted on the clean Carfax and it shows.  The engine bay matches the undercarriage’s cleanliness.
