The Mustang went modern-retro with the fifth generation in 2005, implementing design cues from the original 1960s cars into a modern package.  While the car went to a sixth generation for the 2015 model year, it is fair to say that the current sixth generation has clear ties to the 2005-2014 cars.

Today’s example is a 2016 GT model, California Edition with 14,000 km on the clock.  This is in the middle of the trim range for the year; the California edition added a couple grand to the price when new, features are detailed below.  Pricier and more powerful than an EcoBoost four-cylinder but less so than a GT350.  The factory powerplant is a Coyote V8 producing 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. or torque, delivered to the wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.  Too bad there is no photo in the ad to illustrate the source of all of this power.  Seller claims output of 470 HP so this is worth an inquiry.

Colours on this car are red on black, leather seats.  The ad mentions “Guards Red” but we associate this hue with Porsche.  The Ford documentation we have seen on 2016 California Editions mentions Race Red.  The listing unfortunately does not include any interior photos so there are no clues as to the condition of the leather.  With the low mileage, we would expect it to remain quite presentable.

The California edition includes some differentiating features.  These include the black decklid spoiler, badging on the exposed fuel cap just below it, distinct badging on the dash as well as many metallic-look appointments inside as well as the leather.

This car is equipped with some nice goodies, modern touches not even considered in 1965:  Panoramic roof; Navigation; Satellite radio; and Power seats.  The five-spoke wheels and black hood scoops are also nice accoutrements.  Seller claims this is an indoors-kept car and we figure never winter driven – always better to check rather than assume, though.
