While 1964-1/2 Mustangs are often referenced and the model began to be sold in 1964, the first model year is, in fact, 1965. While K-Car advocates might provide resistance, this was the generally accepted calling card in the fine automotive career of Lee Iacocca. The concept seemed simple: put a large displacement, powerful engine in a small car. The timing was right and market acceptance came in a landslide. Over 400,000 were sold in this first model year.

This car is claimed to be an older restore, meaning that it was restored some time ago. Timing is unclear from the seller but there is a claim of no rust. As with most first-generation Mustangs which are still rolling, this car has been modified. On the performance side, it boasts a Clifford header and dual exhaust. The pipes are not pictured but we figure they are a great period item, especially combined with the BF Goodrich Radial T/A white-lettered tires mounted on the alloy wheels.

On the modernizations side, the car has been treated to power brakes, with discs up front. This is a welcome upgrade in our books for a ‘60s car. The standard brakes with drums all around sometimes make for a heavy pedal and stopping power not quite to today’s standard. As well, the car is running electronic ignition with an aftermarket sound system. A large speaker box matching the interior can be seen in the photos fore of the automatic shifter.

While the restoration is noted as older, both the interior and engine bay present beautifully. The blue seats with white inserts seats show little signs of vinyl wear in the only photo provided. They are accented by a running Mustang logo. Lap belts are in place for front buckets, we figure there are no seat belts in the rear but this is best confirmed with the seller.Â

Under the hood, the air cleaner and block are a very clean Ford blue. Alternator, battery cables, reinforcement bars and springs for the hood itself also show little signs of wear in photos. In the underside photo, the front discs and control arm present similarly. In the same photo, the one tire pictured appears to retain plenty of its original grip

The odometer is disclosed as 123,456 km. We are taking this to mean TMU – True Mileage Unknown. Understandable for a 56-year-old ride.
