1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Coupe 5-speed manual

This normally-aspirated 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Coupe is a mostly original car with claimed original red paint.  Rather than the ubiquitous black, this car’s interior is finished in brown leather.  The 207 horsepower of the 3.2 litre gets pushed to the rear wheels by the G50 5-speed transmission produced by Getrag and which uses Borg Warner synchronizers.

Modifications from new include period-correct BBS wheels, which are enjoying a recent resurgence in popularity.  When these cars were built, they were a very popular upgrade.  There is also an aftermarket stereo in place.  Seller reports an ownership tenure of eight years, and that the car has always been stored indoors.  The paint’s originality is corroborated by an appraiser’s opinion.  The seller possesses a clean Carfax and states no accidents.

The front end includes a low-slung front spoiler with driving lights incorporated within.  It is complemented by the trademark 911 whale tail rear spoiler.  Some refer to it as a tea tray spoiler.  The black rear bumperettes are considered by some as bulky, they appear arguably less so with the red paint.  The round headlights are rimmed by metal frames.  A sunroof is equipped, and seller reports new tires.  It has the look of an M491 option package car, but seller does not mention this.

In the rear, the flat-six produced 207 horsepower when new.  When new, it would produce times for 0-60 runs in the 5.4 second range and top out at 240 km/h.  The engine bay appears well-kept.  The air filter edges are clean while the Shell oil and other decals are intact.  No decay is visible on metal parts.  There is a new battery and seller mentions that service records since new are on hand.  The owner’s manual and warranty booklet are photographed with a sunroof tool, BBS tool and two keys.  The car has 149,000 km on the clock; seller notes that it is a Canadian-market unit.

Inside, the brown driver’s seat does show signs of its 33 years.  There are creases and light cracking, though no tears are noted.  Other seats are in much better condition and the matching brown carpets are in nice condition.  The brown leather shift boot is a nice complement around its black surroundings.  A period 911 quirk is that the head unit is beside the HVAC controls, which include air conditioning.  The three-spoke steering wheel is an upgrade from the standard Porsche four-spoke unit at the time and the left-of-steering-column mounted ignition is an entrenched 911 attribute.
