39K-mile 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Limousine
Keeping with our recent Sunday cruiser theme, here is one that enables you to bring along the entire gang. It is a 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Limousine. It is not an aftermarket stretch, it was originally built as a limousine by Cadillac, longer than its Sedan deVille cousin – body by Fisher. Over fifty years later, we are thinking that the length built in by the factory originally is beneficial. The side-by-side headlights were new in 1969 – these and the deVilles were comprehensively restyled for the year. The previous headlights were a stacked set-up and considered outmoded by 1969. The front fenders gave the car an edge hinting at Eldorado while the rear quarters were extended to emphasize a long, low look.

This Caddy is gold in colour with a brown vinyl Landau roof, which harkens to some period T-birds. We have said it before about these older padded vinyl roofs – they do not do well when stored outside. Though held back some by chrome pitting on the roof’s “Fleetwood” emblem and the Landau stylized “S”, vinyl looks fairly good – so we figure this car has been mostly stored indoors. If so, it has likely led a gentle existence considering its low claimed 39,000 miles and Florida history. The chrome, whitewalls and Cadillac wheel covers are smart period accoutrements and the seller notes that the air conditioning as well as all other accessories are functional.
The front bench is finished in a dark trim while the rear seats are tan. Considering the power divider between driver compartment and the rear passenger area, we are not put off by it. The car is reputed to have served time commercially, though not much if the quoted odometer reading is authentic. It is even reported to have transported Jimi Hendrix around the Sunshine State – though not extensively, considering the mileage and the guitar hero’s untimely demise the year after this car’s model year. The hidden locking vault in the rear seat and window tint do scream “rock star” though if we were buyers, we would sure love some documentation of this fun fact!
There is no word on powertrain – or, sadly, any photos – but this would have rolled out of the factory with Cadillac’s huge 472 cubic inch OHV V8 offering of the day. In metric measurement, it is a “mere” 7.7 litres, and smaller than the 8.2L in the Eldorado of the day. A three-speed TH-400 automatic sends the 375 horsepower to the rear wheels. While the HP rating is impressive, it pales in comparison to the 525 lb.-ft. of torque. Its run was in Cadillacs from 1968-1974, all of them can float the highway for days.
