The listing does not get much into features of this C1 convertible. It focuses on the details of what has been worked on over the three-year restoration and that the restoration remained true to the originality of the car. This is evidenced by the fact that the exterior has stuck to Inca silver with white trim between chrome accents – as Chevy did in the period – while interior has stuck to red. Wheel covers and wide whitewalls are a nod to the originality as well.
The V8 engine in the ’59 Corvette displaced 283 cubic-inches. The 4-speed manual sends the power, 230 ponies when it was new, to the rear wheels. The car is equipped with posi-traction to help get those rear wheels to stick to the pavement. (Horsepower figure quoted is for the carbureted 283. If this car were fuel-injected – a “fuelie” to the Corvette crowd – HP is 250. Without fuel injection mentioned, we are figuring this to be the base 4-barrel carbureted car.)
This car is said to have had all of the following replaced over the course of the three-year restoration, starting with the interior – carpets, seats, dash and door panels. On the exterior, there is a new windshield, fresh paint, new soft top. On the exterior trim side, there is all new chrome, new stainless steel accents and all of the bright work has been polished. And then under the hood, there is a new wiring harness and the engine has been rebuilt and rebalanced. We sure love the photos of the engine bay – gleaming chrome air filter cover and intake as well as valve cover with Corvette script – and underneath showing new pipes brand new-looking bolts.
The results of the work described show through in the photos. It is difficult to find a flaw inside or out, underneath or in the engine bay. To be sure, $100,000 is a lot of money but when we start doing the mental math of parts procurement cost and then try to figure the labour that went into this restoration, it is easy to see why there is a school of though that says to buy a finished car as it is the better value. If this car is what the ad says it is, it is going to make someone verrry happy.
