We can’t tell if the 396 currently in the car is original; in the absence of SS badging, we are guessing not.  If original, it is a rare breed.  Only 612 ’67 Chevelles came with the 396 and these were good for 375 horsepower.  There is an automatic transmission with substantial T-grip floor shifter to send the power to the rear wheels.

Finished in teal, the body possesses a tidy appearance – paint and chrome both look quite good.  It is worthy of showing and it appears in one of the photos that this car made the circuit this season.  While this photo is with the hood up, it would be nice to get a closer look at the 396… but, alas.  Chevy Rallye wheels seen also on Camaros, Corvettes, El Caminos and the like are installed and looking sharp.  Other exterior features include the crossed Chevy flags on the fenders, dual side mirrors, vented hood and Malibu badge on the quarters.

Inside, the upholstery is a matching shade of turquoise and has a clean appearance.  Faux wood treatments and a sweeping speedometer are period looks.  This car was not manufactured with the optional tachometer, though aftermarket gauges are installed below the radio and HVAC controls.  The vent windows, prevalent in the period, are a nice feature for a car without air conditioning.

Other mechanical features of this car include disc brakes, a functional upgrade for ‘60s cars that are still cruisin’.  Power steering and a lowered body should make for an improvement over the handling out of the factory.  We figure the upgraded exhaust combines with the big V8 for an appealing rumble.
