1972 Buick Skylark Custom convertible
This 1972 Buick Skylark Custom convertible is a highly modified example finished in orange with a white top and tan vinyl seats. It is powered by a 455 cubic inch V8 engine which gets power to the rear wheels via an aftermarket four-speed transmission with overdrive. Interior modifications include a tachometer over the steering wheel, ratchet floor shifter and further gauges. Under the hood, there are modifications as well: SP1 intake, 200R4 overdrive transmission with racing rating and adjustable torque converter, Stage 2 shift kit, aluminum radiator and MSD 6AL ignition. Out back, there is a 3 Pypes x-pipe exhaust with adjustable block-off plate, which produces a strong rumble according to the seller.

Stock interior features include factory instrumentation of fuel gauge, speedometer and a blank for where a clock could have been optioned. Crank windows, remote-adjustable side mirror and aftermarket radio with graphic equalizer are also in place.

The car is non-matching numbers which would imply a non-stock 455. This would have been standard equipment in the Buick Gran Sport series. This engine produced 350 horsepower from the factory, though this highly-modified car’s rating is not known. The engine is said to have powered the car a mere 2,000 miles.

The seller has owned the car over 20 years and suggests his extensive documentation includes receipts for greater than $30,000.

The interior features a split bench seat up front, which was built to accommodate three.

On the outside, the car presents as close to stock. The orange paint has a consistent shine, the white convertible top is tidy, presented in the photos in both up and down positions. The top features a glass rear window. One noticeable feature not belonging to a Buick is the set of installed Oldsmobile wheels. The car measures 202 inches in length, with a wheelbase of 112 inches. In stock trim, the car weighed in at 3,505 pounds.
