2024 06 21 post Strokers Club of Galt – 70th Anniversary Celebration, held June 15, 2024

Well, this was a neat celebration.  Many of us are members of a car club – or, clubs – but how many of them are community-based and have been around 70 years?  Last weekend, we attended the 70th Anniversary of the Strokers Car Club of Galt.  It was a great celebration in the country, with not one, but two barbecue meals, all the fixin’s, sunshine, cool cars, friendly folk and, of course, birthday cake!  We loved all of the cars but the most special is the Strokers’ original dragster, affectionately known as the Purple People Eater, which was originally built in the ‘50s and whose original driver, Andy, was on hand to spin the odd yarn.  Now, the dragster has not always looked as good as it presents here – the hobby owes a debt of gratitude to Mark Rogerson for restoring it to its current state after it was sold off part by part in the ‘60s.  Thank you, Mark!  Mark’s tow vehicle is no less than the white ’66 Ford pictured on this page – here is a man dedicated to the hobby and its history.  Mark and Andy will both be featured in a future CCC Collector Car Stories podcast – we drop these Wednesdays at 5 pm so watch for them!  We naturally love all of the cars presented here but we wanted to also make special mention of Al W’s blue 1995 Mustang GTS (yes, it is a GTS), which has over 500,000 km on the clock.  It looks amazing, hard to believe the mileage.  Thank you to all of the Strokers members, who ran a fabulous, well-organized celebration.  Congratulations on your Anniversary.
