3500 km 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt 6-speed Manual

Up for auction is a 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt 6-speed Manual with ultra-low mileage.  The owner could be called a Mustang connoisseur as he has owned several examples over the years.  In fact, he is the new owner of the ’89 Fox body GT sold earlier in October by Collector Car Canada.  Being that he is known as an aficionado, a Dodge dealer friend tipped him off in advance that this Bullitt was coming in on trade for someone who splurged on a previously-ordered Hellcat Challenger and the seller snapped it up before it hit the dealer’s lot.  However, he has found that he has not had much occasion to drive it – thus the continued low mileage and its availability here by auction.  Even better, the owner notes that the limited production of this vehicle qualifies it for collector status with his insurer, saving him premiums from what one would pay for a conventional Mustang GT.  Further, the balance of the 5-year/100,000 km factory warranty on this Bullitt, covering powertrain and against body corrosion – through April 2024/100,000 km, whichever comes first; it also includes roadside assistance.  For Ontario buyers:  the car comes with an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate as well as a Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP), reflecting no liens against this Mustang.  Lastly from the administrative file, a clean Carfax appears in the photo gallery.

CCC Back Lot price $56,000 + Buyer Premium of 4.99% (Taxable)

The original Bullitt Mustang was made famous by the 1968 movie of the same name, starring Steve McQueen and a GT390 Mustang in Dark Highland Green.  Ford has brought back Special Edition Mustangs a few times since carrying the Bullitt moniker.  This version had a tight run in the 2019 and 2020 model years with limited production, supplementing the 2008/2009 and 2001 versions – also with scarce production.  The model at hand was unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit by Molly McQueen, granddaughter of Steve – a PR coup by Ford Motor Company.  Most of the sixth-generation Mustang Bullitts were finished in the Dark Highland Green of the original car, though some were offered in black.

This ultra-low mileage Bullitt is in the arguably preferable Dark Highland Green and the finish reflects the sub-3500 km odometer reading, pride of ownership since new and the permanent ceramic coating applied in 2022 (receipt in photo gallery).  We noticed no flaws in the time we spent with the car on photo day.  The hood intakes are finished in black and a subtle hint of the power lurking below.  The exterior carries a somewhat stealth appearance, the only badging is the rear centrally-mounted round Bullitt emblem.  Staggered Heritage alloy wheels measure 19” and are true to the understated look, in black with a polished lip.  Original Michelin Pilot Sport tires remain in place, 255/40 on the front 9” wheel and 275/40 on the rear 9-1/2” wheel, Y-rated all-around.  Inside the wheels sit a set of Brembo high-performance brakes, the branded calipers finished in red.  Light treatments do not differ from the same year’s Mustang GT and feature the desirable sequential indicators in the rear.  Original Carlite glass remains in place and in as-new condition.

The excellent condition interior is finished in black, with leather seating surfaces – heat is on offer for both the front seats and the steering wheel, ventilation on the buckets.  Unique to the Bullitt from the standard Mustang GT are the seat pattern, contrasting dashboard stitching and LED instrumentation graphics – there is a video to demonstrate the latter, below – featuring a 300 km/h speedometer and 8000 RPM tachometer with 6500 RPM redline.  The six-speed manual shift knob tops a modern shifter while at the same time paying homage to Mustangs past in large white ball form.  The console switchgear also harkens to performance cars past.  The chrome door sills and passenger side dash all possess a tasteful accent in the form of Bullitt logos.  A near-new car, this modern muscle car offers the modern accoutrements like controls mounted on the three-spoke steering wheel, push-button start, back-up camera, impact-warning sensors, Bluetooth, navigation, USB inputs and 12V outlets.  Both front seats are power-operated, the driver’s seat showing more adjustment options as well as seat memory.  The trunk is sensibly sized for a muscle car and contains the factory stereo subwoofer; the 12-speaker sound system is by premium maker Bang & Olufsen.  There is also an unused air compressor in the trunk, installed at the factory.

While the 5-litre powerplant of this Bullitt is consistent in displacement with the Mustang GT, it does offer more power, to the tune of 480 horses at 7000 RPM; torque is rated at an also-generous 420 lb.-ft., realized at 4600 RPM.  The growling Coyote V8 houses a larger 87 mm throttle body, a recalibrated cold air intake and a GT350-inspired intake manifold, accounting for the power increase.  Acceleration happens quickly:  0-60 times are in the 4.4 second range and the quarter-mile is in the rear-view in a crisp 12.6 seconds; for those going to the track to test these figures, Ford reports a governor-limited top speed of 163 miles per hour.  All Mustang pony cars are rear-drive, all sixth-generation Bullitts are equipped with the Getrag-Ford MT82-D4 6-speed manual.  This car features adjustable performance and active exhaust settings – among the more interesting are Sport, Sport+, Track and Drag Strip to supplement more run of the mill offerings like normal, snow and wet.  Traction control is adjusted in concert with these driver-chosen settings.  This Bullitt is equipped with MagneRide adaptive damping suspension that provides a smooth ride on the highway coupled while offering tenacious handling on the twisties.  The car’s undercarriage is as expected for a pampered 3500 km machine, near-new.
