Here is a Euro 1990 Volkswagen Golf GTI G60 Edition One Wolfsburg Edition 5-Speed Manual, a car not often seen on these shores. Its history is in France, before being imported by the selling dealer and documented in a booklet assembled under previous ownership which comes with the car. It is finished in Dark Burgundy Pearl (VW paint code LC3U), one of only two colours for the Edition One Wolfsburg cars, over a Mauritius Blue interior which further distinguishes these cars from other Mk2 Volkswagen Golf derivatives. The supercharged 1.8 litre transversely mounted inline four has powered the car 139,900 km and it gets power to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.

Silver-finished stock BBS wheels measure 15” x 6” and are skinned in a set of Hifly HF805 Challenger D5RT ultra-high performance summer tires measuring 195/50. The tires are V-rated and display a 2021 date code. Underneath is a set of four-wheel disc brakes with ABS functionality. Both BBS and VW/Audi emblems are stamped on the centres of the German made wheels. Fog lights are equipped below the four-across headlights by Hella, polished dual exits from the exhaust provide brightwork.

Recaro front buckets came from the factory with this storied name embroidered on the seat backs to add to the sport heritage of this G60. They are covered in Mauritius Blue upholstery with accent stripes and are complemented by matching carpets and a black dash set-up with under-dash shelves for both front occupants. Shifter and handbrake boots are leather, as is the shift knob. Although speakers are installed in the doors and adjacent to the cargo cover, there was no head unit in the car on photo day, the seller will supply one. Air conditioning and central locking are equipped, along with a period typical on-board computer which makes use of the LCD display also employed by the digital clock. There is a G60 emblem on the glove box door, complementing those on the grille and rear hatch, to indicate the uniqueness of this supercharged version of the GTI. One of the support cables for the cargo cover is missing.

The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a speedometer topping out at 260 km/h and a tachometer with a maximum reading of 7000 RPM and 6200 RPM redline. Incorporated within the speedometer is an odometer reading under 139,900 km and a trip odometer with a fuel gauge at the base of the tach. In between the two are lights for turn indicators and high beams with red warning lights for voltage, coolant temperature and oil pressure. Coolant temperature is also the subject of a gauge above these dash lights.

The biggest differentiator between this car and the bulk of period GTIs is found under the hood in the form of a SOHC 1.8 litre transversely mounted inline four featuring Bosch engine management and the G60 supercharger. Factory rating for horsepower was 160 HP, with 166 lb.-ft of torque at the ready. French language service records are in a vinyl folder and come with the car. The battery was replaced in 2025. Other items announcing this Wolfsburg G60 car is a departure from non such spec’d Mk2s beyond the fender badging are the Mauritius blue Recaros, wider wheel arches, tuned suspension, BBS wheels, and side mounted intercooler to complement the supercharger. The Edition One status is also shown off in the form of a hood-mounted decal.
