1953 MG TD Roadster 4-Speed Manual
This 1953 MG TD Roadster 4-Speed Manual is being offered by the selling dealer out of London, Ontario after buying it back from a customer no longer able to enjoy it. It is powered by a 1250 cc inline-four which powers the rear wheels through a 4-Speed Manual transmission. It is finished in cream over a tan interior. Recent work in 2024 includes four tires, brakes at all four corners, tie rod ends, speedometer, wiring and fluid service. For Ontario buyers – the Roadster is offered with an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.
The exterior has been refinished in the current cream and is complemented by a tan canvas top. There are chrome bumpers in place with tonneau covers and removable side curtains. The grille with chrome framing has slats in exterior colour with matching outboard fenders. Paint condition is shown in the gallery and videos with minor flaws in the passenger’s side rear fender. A fog light is missing.
Steel wheels are capped by chrome covers with the MG emblem. Nankang tires measuring 165/80R15 were installed in 2024 and show a 2023 date code. The rear mounted spare is mounted on a matching rim and matching chrome MG cap.
Seats with separate bottoms and a common back are upholstered in tan leather. They match the door cards in colour, where map pockets are found. The doors are hinged at the rear and tested well on photo day. Latches are finished in chrome and there is black carpet underfoot.
The steel dashboard features snaps for the tonneau cover and is fronted by a wood-rimmed steering wheel with three metal spokes. Beyond it is the recently serviced speedometer with a maximum reading of 100 MPH. The 6500 RPM tachometer is to its right, these white-faced gauges are by Jaeger. The odometer shows under 6,000 miles, true mileage is unknown (TMU). Accessory gauges for coolant temperature and amperage are centre mounted with horn, ignition and starting buttons; startup is demonstrated in the videos. Rear-view mirror is dash-mounted and a glove box faces the passenger’s seat. The windshield is hinged at the bottom, this roadster can be operated with it lowered; photos appear in the gallery.
Twin carburetors feed the 1250 cc inline-four, which was rated at 54 horsepower and 64 lb.-ft. of torque when new. Recent servicing includes suspension, electrical, tires and brakes. The underside of the car is shown in our gallery.
