Overview
Available on Collector Car Canada is a restored 1974 Porsche 911 5-Speed 915 Manual prepared for track use. Refinished in Grand Prix white, this car’s origin is a base model from the first year of the G-body 911 which had a long production run, through 1989 – until the release of the 964 in the following year. It was repainted in the original Grand Prix as part of a glass-out restoration. The build of this restored car was engineered and executed by Multimatic. It has been owned by the same enthusiast for 33 years and is very well sorted as it sits. The flat-six mounted in the rear of this 911 is the original 2.7 litre unit and is fed by Webers. The original 915 5-speed manual transmission is in place sending power to the rear wheels with an open differential. Normally equipped with an 8/31 ring/pinion ratio, this car features 7/31 and thus decreases other ratios.
Never driven in rain or snow, the body is straight and free of corrosion. Seller has supplied underside photos to illustrate a clean undercarriage. It is equipped with a staggered set of Fuchs wheels, of considerable value on their own, measuring 16” x 7” in the front and 16” x 8” in the rear. The P-Zero Rosso tires by Pirelli are new, P205/55 and P225/50 and Y-rated – we note date codes of 4922 and 0223 as well as light marking on the rear rim, driver’s side. There are several track features showing on the exterior of the car: tow strap and ring, heat shield over exhaust pipes, exposed oil lines (see “Caution” decal for jacking) removed side mirrors and exhaust screens in the rear side windows.
The interior is a race-inspired cockpit. Racing seats are by Recaro and OMP; both are equipped with Sabelt five-point harnesses while the rear seats have been removed. Door cards show crank window operation as a weight saving as well as straps in use over conventional handles. Another weight saver executed during the build was the removal of soundproofing insulation. The primary colour inside is black while the five-point harnesses provide a fair amount of red contrast, matched by the door straps Interior is by Rennsport with exposed metal floors and adjustable pedals.
Stock central-mounted 8,000 RPM tachometer remains in place, fronted by the three-spoke Momo racing steering wheel. The 150 MPH speedometer has been tilted such that a vertical needle reading is had at approximately 95 MPH. The odometer within it shows 74,000 miles. A second tachometer has been added as the Porsche factory unit is sometimes questioned as to absolute accuracy. Safety is paramount with the bolt-in custom roll cage by Multimatic and the Halon fire extinguisher. HVAC system has been removed; for Ontario buyers, a windshield defogger would need to be installed before an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate were issued.
While the stock 2.7L flat-six remains in place, it has been modified: inlet and exhaust have been ported and polished; Weber carburetors with tall secondaries are in place; there is a custom intake system installed, manifolds are by Multimatic; headers with supertrap exhaust are installed. Ignition is electronic and the oil cooler mounted in the front fender keeps oil temperatures manageable – the seller reports that it does not exceed 230F. Cams come from a period “S” donor car. Ignition and battery switches are fitted both inside and outside the car.
Owner warrants that this is a well-sorted car and not in need of repair. The most recent maintenance included installation of the P-Zero Rosso tires with corner balance and changing of fluids.
This restored 1974 Porsche 911 5-Speed 915 Manual, Track-Prepared comes with 2 keys and is available from the 33-year owner in Gores Landing, On
August 22, 2023 – Please note: Seller has supplied this further information after a “Contact Seller” message:
– engine upgrades pre-date his ownership;
– original seat belts remain in place;
– to get HVAC running as stock, a blower motor must be procured and installed;
– For an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate, it will also need sun visors and washer fluid pump;
– car has a clean title despite a minor rear bumper collision some years ago;
– body of car is near-perfect;
– Multimatic prepared the car for a former Porsche Club of America, Upper Canada Region head driving instructor;
– Prior to that, it was owned by a PCA UCR Concours judge; and
– Reflective of a track car, the alternator in place is a lightweight piece to prevent it from drawing more power from the engine than necessary.
