110K km 1997 Audi A4 5-speed manual with 2.8L V6
Here we have a low-mileage and very clean 1997 Audi A4 5-speed manual with a 2.8 litre V6 engine. Released for the 1995 model year and still in production today, the wildly successful A4 sport sedan has had a big hand in repositioning Audi alongside German competitors Mercedes-Benz and BMW, preferred by many as tops among those three venerable manufacturers. This generation of A4 was widely accepted as a well-built and -assembled machine; internally, parent company Volkswagen declared this iteration of the A4 the company benchmark for build quality.
Featuring the 12-valve 2.8 litre V6 engine, this car produced 172 horsepower when new. The 2.8 is mated to the desirable 5-speed manual transmission, which sends the power to the front wheels. The transaxle-type transmission is mounted at the rear of the longitudinal front engine. Other mechanical features include power steering and ABS. One look at the engine bay reveals that the engine and surrounding components are exceptionally clean. The car has not logged a lot of miles. Odometer reading is just under 110,000 km.
The seller reports that he has owned the car since 2004, it has been in his family since 1999 and has all service and parts documentation dating back to 2009. Performance upgrades running on this car include Eibach /BOGE (Sachs) Pro System shocks and springs, 18-inch Bridgestone RE760 tires mounted on the replica RS4 wheels and Audi A8 front brakes. Most recent service consists of an oil change, brake fluid flush, replacement of the oil cooler and replacement of the brake fluid reservoir.
The red paint retains a polished shine. Seller reports that the car still shows its original Laser red paint (Laserrot / code LY3H H1), with the exception of that on the trunk lid. Trunk lid was repainted some 22 years ago. Another striking feature on this car is the set of replica Audi RS4 18” wheels. They look so good that some may wonder why Audi delivered any of these B5 body style/Type 8D generation A4s without them. Completing the sporty look are the clean, unfogged flush-mounted headlights surrounding the familiar four-ring Audi emblem on the grille. Admittedly picky, the seller reports that if he were keeping the car, the improvement he would make next would be to repaint the front bumper to address minor stone chips on the lower section of the bumper cover.
On the inside, this car features grey velour upholstery and other surfaces also in grey to complement the bright red paint on the exterior. Wood trim surrounding the cabin is a premium appointment and the black-on-white instrumentation is consistent with what is still in use by Audi today, with the red LED displays in use for a couple of decades. The Audi three-spoke sport steering wheel is another premium touch. Head unit is upgraded to a Sony system with Bluetooth, which also features matching red LED lighting. The Sony also features CD, Sirius XM (for subscribers), with USB and AUX inputs. The car has a climate control system with air conditioning, power windows and power locks. Seller notes that the cruise control functions intermittently.
Other items included in the sale are two keys, original Owner’s Manual, the original 16” 7-spoke wheels (pictured in the gallery), a factory repair manual, an OEM oil filter for the next oil change and braided steel brake lines (to be installed in future, if ever needed). Another note is that the car has a trailer hitch subtly installed.
