**SOLD by CCC AUCTION** 1972 Datsun 240Z 4-Speed Manual, Restored

Overview

1972 Datsun 240Z 4-speed manual

Presented here is a 1972 Datsun 240Z, finished in Silver over black vinyl upholstery. Power comes from a 2.4-litre inline six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Under previous ownership, this 240Z benefited from a full restoration carried out to factory specifications, including a repaint and trim refinishing. The car was acquired by the current owner in 2015, with approximately 4,000 miles added since that time. This example is now offered with two keys, original rims, additional spare parts, and an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate, and is in Kitchener, Ontario.
The exterior has been refinished in a shade of silver closely matching the original Metalic Silver Datsun paint code (901) as set out on the decal under hood. As part of the restoration, this example was refinished in a glass-out respray to original specifications. Photographs in the gallery illustrate body lines, panel fitment, and a uniform finish across all surfaces. Exterior equipment includes chrome bumpers with rubber overriders, a driver’s side bullet mirror, stainless window surrounds, and Z-car badges mounted at the C-pillars. Amber front indicator lenses are mounted below the headlamps, while the rear carries rounded rectangular taillamps framed in black housings. The hatchback design provides rear cargo access, with badging on the left and right sides denoting Datsun and 240Z. The brightwork and trim are in place to factory spec and all glass panels appear clear and intact. A scratch and a paint chip on the driver’s side front fender can be seen in the gallery. On the opposite side, there is some paint upset that has been touched up where the front spoiler meets the fender.
The period-correct 14-inch four-spoke alloy wheels and show silver centres with polished lips. They are mounted with Toyo Extensa A/S radial tires measuring 195/70R14, with an H speed rating. Braking is by power-assisted discs at the front and drums at the rear, with all four corners serviced during current ownership.
The interior is upholstered in black vinyl, extending to the bucket seats, door cards, and rear area. The dashboard, also finished in black, retains its original Datsun 240Z badge on the passenger side, with a diamond-patterned rubber floor mat protecting the footwell. Equipment includes manual roll-down windows, a three-speed heater and blower, and a believed-original Hitachi AM/FM radio mounted in the centre stack, inoperative, as is the switch for the power antenna. A wood-rimmed steering wheel with three drilled spokes has been installed, while the factory gear lever is fitted with a wooden knob. High-back bucket seats with integrated headrests are upholstered in vinyl that shows only creasing consistent with age. Our photo gallery illustrates intact dashboard padding and original switchgear, including switches for hazard and lighting functions low on the centre stack. Instrumentation consists of a 160-MPH speedometer, an 8,000-RPM tachometer with 7000 RPM red line, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level, and amperage. The odometer displays under 69,000 miles. Over the centre stack is further original instrumentation: oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level and an analog clock which runs though seller is unsure if it keeps accurate time.
The engine compartment houses a 2.4-litre inline six, known internally at Datsun as the L24. Induction is provided by twin SU-style carburetors, paired with a red-finished air cleaner housing bearing the factory identification decal. Output was factory rated at 151 horsepower and 146 lb.-ft. of torque, delivered at 5,600 and 4,400 RPM, respectively. This example presents in near-stock configuration, with blue ignition leads and correct style hoses visible in the gallery. The restoration undertaken by a previous owner included a full mechanical overhaul to bring the powertrain back to original operating condition. No aftermarket modifications, performance upgrades, or deviations from stock specification are noted by the seller.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Recent service includes an oil change. The 240Z was widely praised at the time of release for its usability in daily driving as well as its ability to compete in motorsport, a reputation supported by its robust engine and balanced chassis. This example presents as a restored car in line with factory standards.
This 1972 Datsun 240Z is offered with two keys, its set of original rims and covers, additional spare parts, and a current Ontario Safety Standards Certificate by the ten-year owner in Waterloo, On.
