No Reserve 2000 BMW 540i
Here is a 2000 BMW 5 Series 540i, finished in Alpine White (Code 300) over Sandbeige Dakota leather upholstery, offered with the excitement of NO RESERVE. This US-market sedan is powered by BMW’s 4.4-litre M62 V8 paired with a five-speed ZF automatic transmission and was imported to Canada in 2003 from California. The speedometer has been updated to km/h while the odometer measures miles. Under current ownership since 2013, the car is offered on behalf of the seller with recent service documentation, a full-size spare, and two keys. This 540i is now offered with its owner’s manual some spare replacement maintenance items, some of the factory-supplied tools and those recent service records, and clean Carfax but for glass in Moncton. The owner has engaged the seller to oversee the sale of various items including a car collection during a downsizing. There will be more on our website over the next couple of “Thrifty Thursdays”.
The exterior is finished in “Alpinweiss” (Alpine White, Code 300), retaining factory badging and Shadowline trim. Equipment includes a power-operated glass sunroof, body-colour bumper covers and mirror caps, chrome window surrounds, Xenon headlamps, fog lights, and heated side mirrors. . Gallery images show intact rubber seals and bright trim. A full-size matching spare with factory jack are present in the trunk, and all exterior lighting is shown functioning in the gallery. All glass but the windshield bears the BMW emblem, consistent with the otherwise clean Carfax showing only a glass claim in 2008.
The 16-inch BMW multi-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with Michelin Premier All-Season tires measuring 225/55R16. We observe date codes on tires of 2021. ABS Braking is power-assisted with ventilated discs at each corner, underneath is a factory M-Sports suspension. This 540i wears Basket Weave rims (BMW Style 17).
The cabin is finished in Sandbeige Dakota leather with colour-matched door cards and carpeting, complemented by an M-Sports multifunction steering wheel, wood trim on the dashboard, centre console, and door cards. Features include dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front heated sport seats with driver memory, power windows and locks, a power tilt-adjustable steering column, cruise control, a rear seat ski pass-through with bag and rear-seat ventilation outlets. The BMW Business HiFi DSP audio system provides AM/FM radio and cassette in-dash, with a trunk mounted six-disc CD changer A factory Navigation system is equipped though data discs are not on hand while a BMW telephone remains installed in the centre armrest, though it is incompatible with modern digital networks. Instrumentation includes a 240-km/h speedometer, a 7,000-RPM tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. We noted wear on both front seats, broken stitching on the driver’s seat bottom and that the power telescopic function for the steering wheel is inoperative.
This E39 540i’s powerplant is a 4.4-litre M62 V8 with Bosch electronic fuel injection, factory-rated at 282 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Recent service includes replacement of the battery the day of our photo shoot, oxygen sensors, an engine-oil and filter change, and a brake-fluid flush performed in 2024. The Carfax report further details maintenance over the years, providing a record of the car’s upkeep. Service records from BMW Moncton and Morton Auto Center document the use of BMW-branded components, and a windshield reminder sticker notes the next oil change is due at 205,000 miles, though it is approximately 14 months since most recent oil service. We also note a “RUST CHECK 2020” windshield decal, though there is surface corrosion on the driver’s side rear wheel well.
