Overview
Here is a 1967 MG MGB GT whose powerplant is a 1.8 litre inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission. It has been refinished in red, which presents over red vinyl upholstery with white piping. It rides on 14” wire wheels and the 1.8 is fed by dual SU carburetors. Other features include a driver’s side exterior rear view mirror, red lensed taillamps, chrome finished bumpers with bumperettes front and rear, a modern head unit with Bluetooth and a banjo-style three multi-spoke steering wheel.
The exterior was refinished in its original red during current ownership, which dates back to 2004. A chrome-finished grille and other trim complement the chrome-finished bumpers. Vent windows are a functional feature to cool the cabin while GT badging is in place on the hatch. There is a single exhaust exit on the driver’s side, with a polished tip.
Fourteen-inch wire wheels are also finished in chrome. The wheels are authentic knock-off, with two ears on each. Tires are by Aurora and measure 185/75 at all four corners. There is a full-size spare in the hatch, mounted on a fifth wire wheel. Braking is by front discs and rear drums.
Seats have been recovered in red vinyl with white piping by the current owner. Door cards are in a matching red while contrast is provided by a black dash cover and black carpets. The original shift knob is in place, labelled for the four forward gears and reverse, the glove box is lockable and there is a heater whose controls are adjacent to the modern Bluetooth head unit.
The banjo-style steering wheel fronts instrumentation by SMITHS, which includes a 120 MPH
speedometer and a 7000 RPM tachometer with a 6200 RPM red line. Smaller gauges show fuel level on a dedicated gauge, with a combination gauge of water temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit incorporated in the speedometer shows under 71,000 miles, though true mileage is unknown (TMU); a trip odometer is also built into the speedo gauge.
Dual SU carburetors feed the 1.8 litre four, which was rebuilt by the current owner, a licensed mechanic who runs an independent shop. The four-speed manual transmission gets power to the rear wheels.
This 1967 MG MGB GT 4-Speed Manual – Restored is offered with an original owner’s manual by the 20- year owner, a licensed mechanic who carried out the restoration, in Cambridge, On.
