Overview
Available on Collector Car Canada is a pristinely restored 1974 Triumph TR6 4-speed manual. This TR6 has been treated to a rebirth over a span of nine years that spared neither expense nor procedure, as evidenced by photos in the gallery following those of the car in its current beautifully finished state. Although the restoration concluded in 2019, it has been driven 10 miles since, leading us to believe that this is as close to a new 1974 TR6 that one can find in 2023. As part of the process, it was finished in Royal Blue over new fenders at all four corners, stripped doors, stripped hood, stripped trunk lid, and new rocker panel assemblies on both sides. New floor panels were also installed. The finished product is excellent as evidenced by the photos starting out the gallery, including several of the underside.
Power is sourced from a high-compression 2.5-liter inline-six, rebuilt during the restoration process. The 4-speed manual gearbox was also rebuilt and is equipped with overdrive controlled by a stalk on the steering column. This TR6 is now being offered with a binder of pre-restoration photos, as well as an extensive photo gallery post- and in-restoration.
This TR6 has been treated to a complete restoration from the ground up: re-chromed original steel front and rear bumpers, re-built engine and gearbox, new aluminum radiator, new wiring harness, re-built twin SU carbs, new vinyl convertible top, new clutch, new front rotors and re-built calipers, new rear brake pads, stainless steel rear hubs and front spindles, new Spax front shocks and new rear tube shocks. The package is complemented effectively by new Panasport wheels sporting a matching set of Pirelli tires, which have rolled approximately 14 miles since new in 2014. The owner handled the bulk of the work himself, handling all but the engine and transmission rebuilds; refinishing the seats and door panels; and painting.
On the inside, the primary colour is a neutral grey. Vinyl is outfitted on the seats and matching door cards, with black inserts on the two bucket seats. Black was chosen for the carpets. The three-spoke Triumph-branded steering wheel fronts a tidily mounted 140 MPH speedometer showing km/h readings and 7000 RPM tachometer showing a redline of 5800. Within the speedometer is an odometer showing under 70,000 miles, which may be accurate though true mileage is unknown (TMU), as well as a trip odometer. Central on the wooden dash face are gauges for oil pressure and fuel level, as well as a voltmeter. The knob on the four-speed shifter is a handsome wood, topped with a Triumph logo. The interior of the glove box has not been neglected or mistreated; an original capacities label remains affixed to the inside of its door.
The engine compartment is easily as presentable as the more often viewed areas. A chrome valve cover spanning the inline six cylinders gleams. All other parts retain a new appearance, with rubbers supple and pliable. The engine compartment side of the body has been treated to the same care in painting as the exterior of the car. A NAPA battery has been fitted with an easy-to-use “kill switch” to disconnect battery in extended times of storage. Engine air filters are by K&N, with this logo visible on the chrome. A wiring diagram appears in the gallery and will be supplied with car in .pdf format.
The interior of the trunk is equally proper, its prop rod functioning as designed. Matching black carpet is clean and unworn, there is a fine condition full-sized new, unused spare beneath, accompanied by unused replacement belts.
The undercarriage looks as new as the exterior. No corrosion is observed within the graphic underside photos. All components appear as new as they are. Even this area is ready for the show judges.
This restored 1974 Triumph TR6 4-Speed Manual is available with a shop manual, wiring diagram, new spare belts, binder of pre-restoration photos and one key from the owner who commissioned the restoration, in Whitby, Ontario.
