SOLD subsequently $6,200 – Set of five 1967 Porsche 911S wheels by Fuchs (Fuchsfelge), “with hearts” and centre caps

Here we have a set of five original 1967 Porsche 911S wheels by Fuchsfelge or, as commonly known on this side of the Atlantic, Fuchs. These wheels have been used and wear the expected badges of service. They could be candidates for refinishing but, as the old saying goes, they are only original once and someone with an original car likely will prefer to install them as is.

The wheels measure 15” x 4-1/2”. They are marked as such on the inside engraving, as shown in the gallery. Part number 901.361.012.01 also appears on the inside of each wheel as does a manufacturer stamp. These forged wheels feature the sought-after heart-shaped valve stem cutouts. With rarity comes value, easily searched with the part number. Offset is 42 mm. The significance of the 901 part number is that it is the model name Porsche intended. However, due to trademarks owned by Peugeot for every three-digit number with a zero as the second digit, plans had to change and the 911 was born.

With the set of five comes one Michelin ZX radial tire. Size is 165 R 15. Porsche purists will recognize the tread. While it is not recommended for use, it can be useful for shows, where Concours judges will likely appreciate the originality. Also included are five Porsche OEM centre caps, not photographed.

The 15 x 4-1/2 size is the earliest manufactured size of the famed Fuchs five-spoke wheels for Porsche. They were introduced in 1966 for the 1967 Porsche 911S, the first more powerful “S” in the storied 911 history. They saved 6.6 pounds per corner, enhancing acceleration and handling compared to standard steel wheels.
