Overview
Presented here is a 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-Speed Sport Roof, finished in Black Ruby Pearl over a grey leather interior. This example is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. This rust-free Canadian market car has been under current ownership since 2020 with the odometer displaying under 88,000 kilometres. This 88K km 1989 Toyota Supra is offered by the seller with two keys, a removable Sport Roof panel, partial service records, spare parts, a spare tire, Supra floor mats, and factory manuals in Calgary, AB.
The exterior is finished in Black Ruby Pearl (Toyota Code 206), with paint depth readings displayed in the gallery that are consistent with owner’s mention of the car still showing its original paint. Colour-matched components include the removable targa roof panel, side mirrors, and rear spoiler which features an integrated centre-mounted LED brake light. Additional exterior equipment includes pop-up headlights, front fog lamps, and a rear window wiper. Badging includes the “Toyota Supra” emblem fore of the hood, along with the “Toyota Supra” and, importantly, “Turbo” identifiers on the rear. Small stone chips on the front fascia have been touched up. There is also a chip in the lens of a functional fog light and 1.5” blemish on the poly front bumper cover.
The car retains its factory silver-finished 16″ alloy wheels, mounted on 225/50R16 Goodyear Eagle Sport tires, V-rated with 2015 date codes. Owner notes that the tires have rolled fewer than 12,000 km. Megan Racing coilovers have been installed, replacing OEM components while retaining the factory ride height. Braking is by four-wheel disc brakes.
The cabin is upholstered in dark grey leather with matching door cards, centre console, headliner, and carpeting. Interior equipment includes a power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control with a/c, and a tilt/telescopic-adjustable steering column. Supra-branded floor mats are in place, and the rear cargo area includes factory storage compartments purpose-built for stowage of the removable Sport Roof panel. Additional interior features include a locking glovebox and manually adjustable passenger seat. Some very light wear is noted only on the driver’s side seat bolster, with the lower cushion showing no signs of wear.
The three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a full factory instrument cluster, which includes a 260 km/h speedometer, 6,500 RPM redline tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and turbo boost pressure. Further interior features include power windows, mirrors and power door locks, cruise control, and a factory AM/FM cassette stereo. Additional equipment includes a rear window defrost, digital clock, and interior lighting controls integrated into the centre stack.
This Supra’s powerplant is a turbocharged 3.0-litre 24-valve inline six-cylinder engine, designated 7M-GTE by Toyota, producing a factory-rated 232 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque. It features electronic fuel injection and an air-to-air intercooler. Additional work performed approximately 17,000 kilometers ago under previous ownership includes a timing belt and head gasket replacement, along with an ARP head stud upgrade; confirmed replacement by Heninger Toyota in a 2021 vehicle service. Fluids changed at the time included power steering, transmission, differential and brake. A new A/C compressor installation and a conversion to R134A refrigerant was completed approximately 1500 kilometers ago under current ownership, along with the replacement of the valve cover gaskets and a compression test which are shown in the photo gallery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 4-pinion 8.0″ 89+ Turbo Diff limited-slip differential (code G305) from the factory. A custom fabricated downpipe, along with a dual tip HKS exhaust system was installed in 2023. Note that the HKS exhaust is cosmetically designed to mimic very closely the OEM unit. Given that this Supra has been stored in a climate controlled environment since new and has never been winter driven, it shows no signs of rust and undercarriage photos can be viewed in our gallery.
