Here is a 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Roadster finished in Obsidian Black (197U) over Beige Leather (205A). It is powered by an M113 5.0-litre SOHC V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. From the first model year of the R230 chassis that succeeded the R129 generation, this SL500 features the AMG Styling Package with sculpted front spoiler and side skirts, Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, and numerous luxury options. The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2024, and it has been driven under 68,000 kilometres. It comes with a Carfax Report, owner’s manual and other factory literature. It is located in Oakville, Ontario.
Finished in its original Obsidian Black, the car shows good gloss, with one quarter panel refinished under prior ownership. Exterior details include the AMG Styling Package (772) with aerodynamic front and side treatments, chrome outside door handles (U27), and Bi-Xenon headlamps (614) in the familiar R230 “peanut” layout with a tinted film overlay showing an imperfection on the driver’s side. A glass hardtop (415) with interior shades is optioned, while heat-insulated glass and integrated fog lamps front and rear make for a refined touring character. Adding to safety is the power-automated automatic roll bar, demonstrated in our videos.
This SL500 is fitted with Continental ExtremeContact performance tires on 2-piece 19-inch AMG dual 5-spoke polished black wheels by Cromodora, complemented by red brake calipers visible behind the spokes. Discs up front are cross-drilled for cooling. Up front, the Continentals measure 255/35ZR19 with a 2023 date code, while aft of the cabin they are 285/30 ZR19. Factory specification lists 18-inch AMG spoked wheels (790) as standard equipment when new, since replaced with the desirable upgraded 19s in place. The tires carry a Y speed rating. Underneath, the car features Active Body Control (ABC) suspension (487), a hydraulically adaptive system offering adjustable ride comfort and dynamic cornering stability, demonstrated in our videos, as well as tire pressure monitoring (475).
The cabin is upholstered in Beige Leather (Mercedes Code 205A) and is matched by the door cards, carpets, and aftermarket floor mats. Burred walnut veneer trim (731) is featured on the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and door panels. Interior features include power-adjustable seats (401) with heat, gear selector lever in wood (284), and a three-piece luggage net set (U44). Comfort and convenience options include garage door opener (232), heated screen wash system (875), COMAND infotainment (352) with navigation, and the Premium Sound System (810) with CD changer (819) and Bose speakers.
A leather steering wheel with wood trim inserts (289), fronts an instrument cluster with a 260 km/h speedometer, 6500 RPM tachometer with 6000 RPM red line, and supplementary gauges flanking them for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer reads under 68,000 km.
The 5.0-litre SOHC V8, an M113 engine, was rated at 302 horsepower from the factory at 5,600 RPM with 339 lb.-ft of torque. Output is delivered through a five-speed automatic transmission (423) to the rear wheels. Supporting equipment includes a high-capacity battery (673). The owner notes that the SOS light is illuminated, an apparent fault with the automatic emergency notification system. A few maintenance items are noted on the Carfax, as is a collision repair in 2006. Both batteries are labelled November 2023.
