2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata SE convertible 6-speed Manual

Seller claims this Miata to appear close to new, despite its 19 years.  And, from the photos posted, the statement does not seem far off.  Seller has owned the car two years and added 15,000 of its 27,000 km since new.

The yellow paint is contrasted nicely by the black soft convertible top, black wheels and black leather interior.  The wheels are an Advanti Racing Storm S1 in Matte Black, shod with General G-Max AS-05 tires.  Seller reports that the tires fit the original Enkei rims, in case the next owner prefers the stock look.  A shot with the car wearing the Enkeis is posted among the photos.  Flaws noted by the seller are limited to two scuffs on the rear bumper cover and two scratches on the housing for the passenger mirror.

This MX-5 is within the NB second generation, which was released for model year 1999.  It is powered by a 1.8 litre  engine which produced 155 horsepower when new.  Torque checked in at 125 lb.-ft.  Power goes from engine to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual and the redline is at 7000 rpm.

Performance is exhilarating, if not record-setting.  Acceleration to 60 was tested at 7.9 seconds, the quarter mile can be had at just under 16 seconds.  Though these are not knockout numbers, the car magazines at the time spoke of the Miata behind happy on the job:  not the fastest, perhaps, but capable of being at its limit for extended stretches.  Combined fuel economy is 23 MPG.  Variable valve timing on the intake cam is at work to produce these figures.

The two seats are draped in leather and a step up from the original Miata, which were first sold for the 1990 model year.  Another premium detail is the chrome trim on gauges.  Even the most basic of Miatas for the time include air conditioning; airbags for driver and passenger; power steering, mirrors, windows and locks; and the AM/FM/CD player by Bose.  The lined top is vinyl and manually operated; the glass rear window is equipped with defrost.

There are also modifications in terms of interior electronics.  The factory head unit has been replaced by a Kenwood touch-screen unit featuring Apple CarPlay.  This comes with two USB inputs hidden in the glove box.  Kenwood was also chosen to provide the dash cam, model DRV-N520.  Again, the original equipment comes with the deal.  OEM head unit is by Bose.
