This Benz is powered by a 3.0 litre straight five-cylinder diesel engine. The powerplant is mated to a four-speed automatic which drives the rear wheels. The odometer reads 166,000 miles, though it must be noted that the Carfax included in the listing indicates a mileage inconsistency. In our experience, this becomes common when Canadian entries are made on a US market car because the odometer is in miles. In this case, there is an entry of over 400,000 km, a number that would translate to miles at a nominal figure for km between the previous and following entries. While an error is plausible, we are treating it as TMU – True Mileage Unknown – because of this.

The blue roof is the largest departure from stock. The seller has metered the paint thickness. Beyond the roof, the silver surfaces appear at stock or near-stock thickness. Photos of the metering process are included in the gallery. Other notable features on the exterior are chrome bumpers, Hella headlights, power sunroof and the power antenna which was rebuilt during the seller’s custodianship.
The car is otherwise largely stock in appearance, featuring Bundt 14” wheels, ubiquitous for W123 sedans and other Benzes of the era, skinned with a combination of Toyo Touring and Goodyear Allegra rubber in the factory-spec size of 195/75R14. Tire condition is well documented by photos. Other examples of period accoutrements are North American headlight housings with incorporated fog lights and ridged taillights. The ridges’ function is to keep a portion of lenses visible when surfaces are obscured by debris.
Inside, the car presents well – free of serious scratches, marks or discolouration in the blue MB-Tex, plastics and carpet. Cracking can be seen in the console wood veneer and dash, please refer to the photos. Instrumentation beyond the period four-spoke three-star badged steering wheel consists of a central 125 mph VDO speedometer, with odometer and trip odometer, flanked by a combo of fuel, oil pressure and temperature gauges to the left and a tachometer on the right, with analog clock incorporated within. Other features inside include a Becker Grand Prix AM/FM cassette player, cruise, power antenna control, rear defrost and HVAC controls including a/c. All four power window switches are centrally mounted and arm rests for both front and rear passengers are in place.
Out back, there is a full-sized spare mounted on a fifth Bundt wheel in the trunk. There is also found a first aid kit and a jack.
The engine bay presents well for a 35-year-old example. Signs of use abound but there are no signs of serious decay. An Interstate battery is installed. Underneath, there is some surface rust but none is visible beyond that, please have a look at the gallery.
Seller reports extensive repairs and maintenance during his ownership tenure. Over the past year, this includes the following:
- Valve adjustment
- Replacement of engine and transmission mounts
- Replacement of shifter bushings
- Cruise control actuator and amplifier rebuild
- Replacement of muffler and tailpipe
- Rebuild of brake rear calipers
- Replacement of all brake pads
- Replacement of front bearings and shocks
- Replacement of steering damper
- Replacement of thermostat
- Radiator flushed and cleaned
- Service window regulators
- New shift knob
- Air conditioner relay rebuild
- Air conditioner compressor, receiver drier, and expansion valve replaced
- Conversion to use R134a refrigerant in air conditioner
- Replacement of hood pad and cable
- Replacement of rubber seals in roof
- Installation of an Interstate brand absorbed glass mat battery
- New front speakers.
Work is listed on a document prepared by the seller and found in the gallery, some in French and some in English. The Carfax notes the described mileage inconsistency, pre-2009 history in New York/Canada since and no collisions or damage.
