1989 Porsche 944 5-speed manual
Here we have a 1989 Porsche 944 5-speed manual. A US-market car, its first 13 years are documented in Texas and Florida. Then, this 944 was imported to Canada in 2002 at approximately 88,000 miles. It has remained registered in Ontario since and recently came into the hands of the selling dealer.
With a near 50/50 weight distribution front to rear, to this day the 944 enjoys a reputation as a great handling car. Porsche purists are known for using them on-track, even owners of 911 are known to do this. The 944 is enjoying a resurgence in the collector car market, and good ones are becoming difficult to find.

White on black, the car presents as clean. Exterior features include pop-up head lights, factory fog lights mounted on the front spoiler, power sunroof whose metal panel can be removed and stored in the hatch as well as upgraded 16” Porsche Design 90 wheels. Originally equipped with 15” wheels, this Porsche’s D90s are equipped with Porsche centre caps and shod in Kumho Ecsta SPT tires, 205/55 in the fore and 225/50 out back, which are V- (front) and W (rear) speed rated; a scrape is noted on one wheel, as shown in the gallery. All glass – tinted on the sides – is SEKURIT-branded, indicating original, all lights work and their lenses are uncracked. The clean appearance is complemented by the factory rear spoiler. A Carfax report is included in the gallery. It sets out the 2002 importation and includes a 2002 claim in the amount of $1449. Seller is not familiar with the particulars of this claim but does note that the front left fender has been repainted.
The contrasting black leather interior is clean and original – some normal wear on the driver’s seat, yet no cracks in the dash. Those who hold provenance in high esteem will be interested in knowing that the original Blaupunkt RENO SQR46 AM/FM/cassette head unit remains in place. Front seats feature both power and manual adjustment, a typical 944 set-up. Both front seats are heated. The car is also equipped with air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors and central locking; front door-mounted speakers have been upgraded. A PORSCHE-scripted mat set is in place and back seats fold down to accommodate loads of cargo in the generous hatch. The original tool roll, spare tire and jack remain in place in that hatch, as does the PORSCHE compressor for inflating the space-saver in case it is needed. Seller notes that the rear wiper has been removed.
The fuel-injected 2.7 litre engine was rated at 165 horsepower when new, reached at 5800 RPM. This was a displacement increase from the 2.5L engines fitted in 1988 and prior 944s. The inline four-cylinder mill has powered the car for 112,000 miles. With the five-speed manual transaxle putting the power to the rear wheels and combining with 166 lb.-ft. of torque (at 4200 RPM), this 944 has zip. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs employing ABS. The underside of the car is quite clean, as shown in the gallery. The engine bay also presents as well kept. An extensive collection of service records kept in a three-ring binder and accordion file, as photographed, will accompany the car to its new owner. There are select receipts in the gallery, more to show the Texas, Florida and Ontario heritage of the car. A new battery was installed in preparation for sale, it is dated 3-22.

Thank you @Stefan for the comment and concern about the “Contact Seller” button. We can confirm that there was an issue with it on auction closing day. We have thus decided to extend the auction 24 hours. The “Contact Seller” form (labelled “Private Message”, 3rd tab in the bidding section) remains active and can be used currently. We will re-implement the “Contact Seller” button when our tech team has completed its analysis. Good luck, bidders!
