1961 Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85

This 1961 Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85 is presented in Seafoam Green over a two-tone green and white interior while powered is sourced from a 215 cubic-inch aluminum-block V8 paired with a Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. The car is a base-trim F-85 from the nameplate’s debut year. The seller, whose family has owned the vehicle since 2005, notes a complete repaint in 2006. It is offered with one set of keys in Cambridge, Ontario.

The 1961 model year marked the introduction of the Oldsmobile F-85, which was built on GM’s compact Y-body platform and shared its underpinnings with early-’60s Pontiac and Buick compacts. This platform allowed for the use of a lightweight 215ci all-aluminum V8 engine, which helped balance performance and fuel economy in a compact format.

This example is finished in a non-original Seafoam Green, painted in 2006, with a white roof. The body features factory-style chrome bumpers, side trim, and F-85 badging. Exterior badging includes prominent “Cutlass” script on both front fenders, factory “F-85” badging with the Olds trademark rocket on the rear quarter panels, and classic Oldsmobile rocket emblems on the hood and trunk lid. The roof pillars feature round red emblems with a stylized insignia, while the rear face carries raised “OLDSMOBILE” lettering across the trunk. These original-style badges and emblems help retain the factory aesthetic and add vintage detail to the car’s overall look. The grille retains its factory OLDSMOBILE lettering. Seller advises of paint chips, small rust spots, and previous damage to the hood from 2006. A dent is also noted in the front bumper.

The cabin features contrasting green cloth upholstery with matching front and rear bench seats with white vinyl accents along the door cards and rear panels, the panel is missing for the passenger’s side rear occupant. The dashboard matches the exterior Seafoam Green and features a scripted Cutlass emblem on the passenger’s side. The interior also houses a sweeping speedometer and trio of auxiliary round knobs mounted on the dash facing. The two-spoke steering wheel is colour-matched and fitted with a chrome horn ring and column-mounted gear selector. Rubber floor mats are in place for the front occupants. Additional equipment includes crank windows, vent windows, and a factory AM push-button radio.

This F-85 is powered by the original 215 cubic-inch aluminum-block V8, paired with a Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Output was factory-rated at 155 horsepower. The odometer currently shows under 5,000 miles, though the car is presented as TMU – true mileage unknown. A new fuel pump was installed in 2022. The engine compartment is tidy and appears well kept. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the original three-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Seller reports that the original transmission can produce a somewhat jolting shift from first to second and that he keeps an eye on temperature gauge when driving in very hot weather.
