1966 Ford Mustang Convertible with GT Options

Here is a 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible GT Tribute finished in Emberglo over an Emberglo and Parchment Luxury interior. This second-year Mustang is powered by an A-code 289 cubic inch V8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor. The owner purchased in 2006 out of St. Louis and handled all importation duties at that time, enjoying it since only in fair weather, illustrated by accumulating approximately 7,000 miles since purchase and approximately 700 miles since the current tires were installed in 2019. Among the GT appointments are the stripes, grille-mounted fog lights, dual exhaust with exits through the rear valance and Pony interior.

The car was originally painted in Emberglo and the owner suspects that it was repainted under prior ownership. The trim code is also consistent with the current Emberglo and Parchment interior. Complementing the Emberglo paint with stripes are chrome bumpers front and rear.

The 14” styled steel wheels wear BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires with raised white lettering. The BFG’s were installed in 2019 and we have a work order for these in the gallery supporting the under 1,000 miles traveled since. Braking is by front discs and rear drums, the brake pedal is labelled “DISC BRAKE”. The convertible top is white in colour and power operated. We have included videos of it being raised and lowered, below. There is a small tear in the convertible top toward the rear of the driver’s side and the zipper for attaching the vinyl rear window is partially separated. There is a parade boot for the top as in the photos and the foam pieces in one photo have been used by the owner to protect the mechanisms below when the top is in the down position.

In the cabin, the Emberglo and Parchment vinyl is complemented by the Pony embossing in the seat covers – buckets in front and a rear bench – colour-matched with the dash cover, door cards and carpets. The carpeted floor mats are a newer, matching accent – Mustang logo-embroidered for the front occupants. Other appointments in the interior are the simulated wood grain steering wheel, dash and centre console trim with stainless treatments, newer RetroSound AM/FM head unit, seat belts for four in exterior colour and four-way flasher controls in the glove box. In addition to the carpeted floor mats, there is a set of white vinyl Mustang floor mats, photographed in the trunk on our listing.

Instrumentation is by a five round dial cluster. Central is the 140 MPH speedometer with integrated odometer reading under 29,000 miles, though this is a Total Mileage Unknown (TMU) offering. To the speedo’s left are gauges for fuel level and oil pressure, while to the right are an amperage meter and a coolant temperature gauge. The convertible top power operation is to the left of the steering wheel. A RetroSound brand AM/FM radio was fitted in 2022, suiting the interior while providing modern sound and functionality, its manual comes with the car.

The A-Code 289 cubic-inch V8 was factory-rated at 225 HP; it starts readily, idles easily and runs smoothly. Please see our start up/idle/exhaust video as well as the driving videos. The owner recently had the Ford C4 3-speed automatic transmission re-sealed and it shifts smoothly and reliably, also reflected in the driving videos. At the time of the transmission work, the oil pan gasket was also replaced. The C4 sends power to the rear wheels while further work in the current custodian’s tenure has included water pump replacement, radiator and power top mechanisms. Please review the work orders and receipts in the gallery. Imperfections include that the hood needs an adjustment to fit flush in the corner closest to the driver’s seat; a passenger door spring not installed is on hand and included; cigar lighter is inoperable; a bushing in the rear left shock needs repair; and minor stone chips as well as a paint imperfection under the fuel cap. The car underwent a 75-point inspection by a Ford dealer in September 2024, the dealer’s inspection report is included in our gallery.

Various GT tributes have been added to the car beyond the striping and grille-mounted fog lights: GT emblems, fuel cap and gauge cluster. Other features indicating this car is well equipped include the dual side mirrors, power steering, reverse lights and day/night centre-mounted rear-view mirror.
