1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass S Hardtop Coupe – Modified and Restored
Here is a modified and restored 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass S Hardtop Coupe available by auction, with some original documentation to add to its provenance. This Olds Coupe is a Western car, originally delivered in Hanna, Alberta (see GM Canada factory invoice and original retail bill of sale in the gallery). Modifications are both cosmetic and functional. The first Cutlass was released for model year 1961 and this ’69 is from the second year of the third generation, the first generation to feature the semi-fastback style as shown here. Previous generations were more a “three-box” sedan body style and the styling at hand is generally accepted as what made the Cutlass come of age. These hardtop coupes came with a wheelbase of 112 inches, four inches shorter than the less elegant four-doors. This 1969 shows off the new-for-the-year split grille and distinct taillights compared to other years.

The exterior of this Cutlass Hardtop Coupe was repainted in Tangerine in 2013. With the white hood stripes and black pinstripes, the finish makes for a combination paying homage to the muscle car era from which it originates. Also looking of the period is the colour-matched raised spoiler on the trunk lid. Beyond the paint, there are other modifications showing on the exterior. American Racing polished five-spoke wheels measure 15 inches, making them a step up from the factory 14s, and they wear muscle car-appropriate BFGoodrich T/A radials with raised white lettering. Halo LED headlights give off a more modern touch while the stock quarter panel markers are smartly shaped in the Oldsmobile logo. Long dual exhaust outlets suit the car’s performance reputation.
The interior is black with some trim matching the exterior tangerine shade. The front buckets have been recently replaced and the vinyl finish on all seating areas remains very presentable. Dash top is in black while facing is orange, brightening up the cabin. Instrumentation includes three large openings with a central 120 MPH speedometer and wood grain trim. Fronting the gauges is an aftermarket “GT” four double-spoke steering wheel by Grant. Knobs below the gauges are for lights, washer-wipers and lighter. In the centre of the dash is a retro-looking modern head unit with USB, it is supported by a 15” colour-coded subwoofer mounted in the trunk. Automatic shifter is on the floor, mounted in the console separating the bucket seats. Carpets are protected by a mats with “Cutlass” embroidered therein.
This Cutlass’s engine bay has been updated with a modern 350 c.i. Vortec V8 GM engine, freshly rebuilt and a mere 150 miles (approx.) since. Components include new camshaft, new springs, new lifters, new port, polished heads and new torque converter. The 5.7L engine is mated to a TH Turbo Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The rear end has also been rebuilt, it is a 12-bolt posi unit with 3.73 gear ratio. Power brakes are also on offer, the dual exhaust is a 2” system by Flowmaster.
Seller notes a few flaws on this ’69. He listed that rear tires will need replacing soon; behind where they are installed some stone chips appear. On the interior, the glove box latch does not lock (seller figures it needs a new lock) and there are a couple of small cracks – one on each of the dashboard and the console lid. Tying back to the original lineage of the car, there are some goodies included: factory invoice from GM Canada to Jimmies Auto Service Ltd. (GM Sales) of Hanna, Alberta (the car left the factory wearing yellow paint); New Vehicle warranty document stamped by Jimmies of Hanna, AB; original bill of sale by Jimmies to the first retail owner; owner’s manual; and Protect-o-Plate data stamped by Jimmies. As well as being a Canadian-market car, this Cutlass S was built in Oshawa, Ontario.
The VIN decodes as follows:
3 – Oldsmobile division of General Motors;
3687 – Two-door Holiday Coupe S
9 – 1969 model year
1 – assembled in Oshawa, On
146591 – manufacturing sequence

Here is one of the true Muscle cars in nice shape.. sure a few stone chips, needs some new rubber and a glovebox lock.. but look its a 1969.. really worth a close look and maybe a trip west to pick it up.. or get it shipped really it is a great time to invest .. In all reality buying a vintage ride at a good price is better than investing in the stock market right now.
A little bit of TLC and a bit of chrome and you could have a show car!!!
Hello everyone, let me know if you require any more information on the car. I’m happy to help, thanks!
