1972 Ford Mustang Grande Coupe
Here is a 1972 Ford Mustang Grande Coupe refinished in yellow with black stripes. The Grande was produced as a luxury trim option package with vinyl roof, plush interior with deluxe cloth high bucket seats, electric clock, interior trim panels with moulded pull handles and arm rests, deluxe two-spoke steering wheel, color-keyed racing mirrors, full wheel covers, metal rocker panel moldings, metal wheel lip trim, and dual exterior paint stripes. In this car’s service time, some of these finishes have been altered: the vinyl roof covering was removed when the colour was changed to yellow, the wheels have been changed to a set of Magnum 500-style wheels and the stripes replaced

The 351 Cleveland engine is a replacement upgrade and it has been modified to be fed by a Holley four-barrel carburetor from the stock two-barrel to mimic the Mach 1 Mustang of the day. Other modifications under the hood include an Edelbrock air cleaner and Moroso valve covers.
Paint work has been upset in the driver’s front fender while there is corrosion bubbling at the base of the driver’s door. C-pillar “Grande” badging has been removed, as has “Mustang” badging originally appearing on the fenders for the owner’s preferred “cleaner” look. The trademark first-generation grille-mounted Mustang badge remains in place and announces this Grande’s prominent presence.
The 351 Cleveland starts easily and runs strong, as shown in the videos. The aftermarket H/P exhaust emits a powerful growl as audible in the acceleration video. The Magnum 500-style wheels are skinned in P215/65R15 Jetzon tires in front and a pair of white-lettered Super Star Radial G/T tires, sized P265/60R15.
The interior is finished in black. The owner found a distressed original Ford build sheet soon after purchase in 2017, it is photographed in the gallery. Instrumentation consists of a 120 MPH speedometer aft of the Grande steering wheel, which shows cracking. Other factory gauges are for fuel level, a non-functioning analog clock and an aftermarket tachometer by AutoMeter has been added. Down below, AutoMeter gauges for water temperature and oil pressure are in place. Grande insignia appears with woodgrain on the dash, dash pad shows some cracking as do door cards. The original PHILCO AM radio remains installed and the driver’s seat upholstery is torn.
Repairs and maintenance carried out under current ownership consist primarily of: minor under carriage bodywork (rail kits), repair of a small exhaust leak, regular maintenance (oil, plugs, cap, cables), interior door handle replacement, high beam light switch replacement and starter replacement.
The V8, fed by the upgraded four-barrel Holley carburetor, is mated to a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels. The underside of this Grande is in good condition, seller states that it has not been winter driven. Photos 157 – 163, including an appraisal at $19,900, were taken at the time of the seller’s purchase, in 2017.
This 1972 Ford Mustang Grande Coupe is available with three sets of keys from the six-year owner in Ottawa, Ontario.
