Available on Collector Car Canada is a 1992 Ford F-150 XLT Flare Side Pick-Up truck. Equipped with the reliability of Ford F-Series – the #1 selling vehicle in Canada for over 50 years – this truck is more on the collectible side than the typical workhorse 1/2 Ton, with the Flare Side body style – a striking feature not often seen on modern trucks.
The 1992 model was the first year of the venerable line’s ninth generation and brought a smoother, more aerodynamic shape, highlighted by the wraparound headlights, compared to the only modestly rounded angles of the 1991. The XLT represented the top trim level of the line, to build on the uniqueness of this Flare Side. This example presents as well-kept over the years, displaying what the owner believes is original burgundy paint save for on the hood – which was replaced after some miles logged without the original being properly latched.

The burgundy paint remains good and is a suitable choice for the unique Flare Side, as is the standard cab. Brightwork retains a brilliant shine and the original forged deep-dish aluminum wheels come close to matching, being that they have been refurbished – they display Ford centre caps. Those rims are outfitted with Firestone Destination LE tires retaining grippy tread and measuring 235/70R15, with an “S” speed rating. Running boards doubling as steps to the cab are in place, as are steps up to the bed both fore and aft of the rear wheel flares – the protective covers on all remain in fine condition. The truck is equipped with two fuel tanks, with refuelling doors on the front and rear sides of the driver’s side flare and a dash-mounted switch to select between the two. The owner will include the truck’s trailer hitch attachment, the FORD decal on the tailgate is a replacement. A couple of flaws we note are some repair in the 6-3/4’ box of the truck, sanded and primed – seller will include matching touch up paint in a spray can, a small instance of rust in the right front quarter panel, paint imperfection on the tail gate and a small crack in the rear bumper, on the passenger’s side of the licence plate. It is not pictured but a vinyl tonneau cover for the box is included.
Inside, the truck is clean and reflects relatively low mileage of 156,000 km. Charcoal in cover, the cloth bench with folding arm rest has been well-kept. Each side features a power lumbar function, with air conditioning on offer, the cab is a comfortable place to be. Being the XLT trim, the truck is well equipped – power windows, power locks, cruise control – even cupholders – are nice extras for a ’92. Offering a clock, the replacement head unit is by JVC and offers modernity in the form of Bluetooth functionality, there is also a dedicated 12V outlet in addition to the lighter’s availability for the same job. Please note: the original stereo head unit is included with the truck. Instrumentation is Ford for the period, central 180 km/h speedometer, flanked by oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and volt-meter. Courtesy lights all function when key is in the ignition (one door panel photo was taken without the key inserted, see photos 58 and 59).
The powerplant of this Flare Side is Ford’s venerable 302 cubic-inch V8 with electronic fuel injection – the engine is a crate replacement installed in 2020 at approximately 154,800 km, less than 1,000 km are on this replacement. The original numbers-matching block is included. This truck sends the 185 horsepower (3800 RPM) to the rear wheels through its four-speed automatic transmission. Torque is a proliferate 270 lb.-ft. at 2400 RPM and for braking, there is an anti-lock system in the rear. Engine runs smoothly, transmission shifts reliably – please see driving videos. The undercarriage shows some surface rust though it remains presentable and solid. For Ontario shoppers – the owner has driven the truck under 1,000 km since it was safetied in 2020 and expects it will pass Ontario safety as it sits. The Carfax for this XLT is clean and appears in the photo gallery. Although mislabelled by the shop, there is a service record (seller’s company has several vehicles serviced by this shop) in the gallery from when the seller bought the truck in 2020. Ball joints, a tie rod end and a power steering pump were installed at 154,600 km; with the safety check, the service bill was approximately $1,500. Another nice upgrade effected by the seller was converting from single to a stainless dual exhaust system – please see video.

Hi RWF! A/C works. I used it about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Now snow…. I normally the front tank I have not used the rear one much. It currently has about 1/4 and operates well. I will ensure proper health before delivery regardless.
Are both fuel tanks working as they should?…also, is the air conditioning working properly? I look forward to your response. Regards

Supermanx. I acknowledge the overspray concern. Not something I noticed. I pretty much stand by my words. The truck is mostly original paint to my knowledge. There clearly have been touchups. The truck is very solid and very well maintained.
Just following up. Wondering about closer look on the door rubbers. Specifically in pics 24,25,42. hard to tell if its lighting/glare in the pics or paint over-spray.
