1992 Porsche 968 Coupe 6-Speed Manual

Here is a well-kept 1992 Porsche 968 Coupe 6-Speed Manual available with service records going back to 1996 from a fastidious owner who is a longtime PCA UCR club member.  A US-market car, it comes with a clean Carfax (linked in CCC Vital Info), was imported to Canada by the seller in 2014 and, for Ontario bidders, it comes with an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.  This 968 is one of approximately 650 coupes produced for the North American market for the model year. It is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-four factory-rated at 236 horsepower paired with a six-speed manual transaxle.  Factory finished in Guards Red over black leather upholstery, it was repainted in its original colour in 2006. Equipment includes OEM wheels from another Porsche upgraded to 18”, a sunroof, power-adjustable leather seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, and an OEM Porsche AM/FM cassette stereo linked with a remote CD changer – please note, the OEM radio is non-operational. This 968 coupe shows 116,000 miles.

The 968 features pop-up headlights showing exposed lenses in the “down” position (motors demonstrated in the videos), fog lights, body-color mirror caps and side moldings, a power-operated sunroof whose panel is removable, a rear hatch spoiler, a rear window wiper, and black rear bumperettes.

The 18″ black-painted Porsche OEM alloy wheels are mounted with 225/40 front and 265/35 rear Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires that were installed in 2019, W-rated with 2019 date codes. Brakes are four-piston calipers over vented discs at each corner with Porsche-branded calipers, and ABS came standard – another safety feature, air bags, are in place on both driver and passenger sides of the cabin. Light scuffing is visible on the right rear wheel.

The cabin features power-adjustable black seats upholstered in perforated leather along with colour-coordinated door cards and carpeting. Amenities include two rear seats with split fold down, automatic climate control, cruise control, analog clock, outdoor temperature reading, central locking, power windows and power mirrors. The Porsche CR-1 AM/FM cassette stereo head unit is not currently functional, sending static to the speakers, and it is linked with a trunk-mounted CD changer controlled by a remote in the centre console opening.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a 180 MPH / 300 km/h speedometer and a 7800 RPM tachometer with a 6,600-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. Air bags are in place for both front seat occupants.  The six-digit odometer shows 116,000 miles.

The 3.0-liter inline-four features VarioCam variable valve timing and was factory rated at 236 horsepower (6200 RPM) and 225 lb-ft of torque (4100 RPM).  From the factory, this 968 clocked the 0-60 run in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 156 MPH.  Most recent servicing in December 2022, under 500 miles ago, included timing belt, water pump, distributor housing, distributor hold sender, balance shaft tensioner and ignition rotor.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle. A free-flow exhaust was installed in 2020 when the steering rack was also repaired.  A summary of service in current ownership is included in below, service records appear in the gallery.
