42K km 2001 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6-speed manual with T-Tops (new photos and video 07/20)

This 2001 Chevrolet Camaro SS is bright red with a grey leather interior.  We at Collector Car Canada are proud to present such a glowing, low-mileage example.  With under 42,000 km on the clock, it has been well cared for and this shows through in the condition of the car.  A bonus is that the fourth-generation Camaro was built right here in the Great White North, at GM facilities in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec.  This car is being offered in Toronto.

This F-body Camaro hails from the second-last year of the fourth generation of Camaros, one year before a prolonged hiatus until the Camaro returned for MY 2010.  In fact, the 2001 model year is the lowest production Camaro since production began in the 1967 model year.  Consider that with the SS trim, low mileage as well as condition and it all adds up to this car’s rarity.

The car has a clean record.  The Carfax on the gallery indicates no accidents or damage in its history.  All records are in Ontario, we understand the car has spent its life to date in the Greater Toronto Area.  It was a one-owner car until June, when the seller purchased it.  As much of an opportunity as it is, the seller has made the difficult decision that his impulse buy does not fit in with his lifestyle.

The SS is a step above its Z28 sibling for the same year.  This SS’s LS1 5.7L V8 checked in with 325 horsepower at 5200 rpm when new, attributable partly to manufacturing with not just a Corvette intake manifold but that used in the Corvette Z06 and supplemented with an LS6 clutch as used in the Z06.  Torque is an equally impressive 350 lb.-ft at 4000 rpm.  The six-speed manual in this unit drives the rear wheels.

The 17-inch factory wheels show a polished finish in nice condition.  They are wrapped in BF Goodrich T/A g-Force Sport COMP tires date-coded 2016.  Other upgrades include a Hurst shifter, Borla exhaust, upgraded intake system – visible in the gallery.  This pony car has not been winter driven and only in rain when caught in an unexpected shower.  The low mileage supports that this has been only a fair-weather ride.

Red paint shows well in photos, flaw-free and consistent with the low mileage.  Flush-mounted headlight lenses are clear and free of fogging and the hood opening is a hint of the brute force beneath.  The flush-mounts are a feature of the re-skin carried out mid-fourth gen., identifying this as a later car.  Other sporting touches on the exterior are the T-tops, rear spoiler, factory tint, SS fender badges and those Borla exhaust tips – to say nothing of the sound.  The T-tops fit snugly which implies that weather-stripping is tight and that the car is not suffering from body flex, another good bellwether.  GM technicians are trained to always ensure T-tops are installed before lifting a so-equipped car on a hoist in order to preclude body flex.

The grey interior reflects early millennium Chevy.  The perforated leather-trimmed seats have worn well, with what little wear they exhibit.  There are no tears or rips, the back seat looks all but unused.  The SS is fully equipped with power group (windows, locks, seats), air conditioning, steering wheel controls, cruise control and air bags for driver and passenger.  This car is further upgraded with an aftermarket stereo.

The engine room presents as one would expect from a low-mile, well-cared for car.  The aftermarket intake is prominent within, and should be good for a few more ponies, though the car has not been dyno’d.  The AC Delco battery is a sign of the owner recognizing the worth of factory parts.
