Original owner 62K km 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS

Here is a 62K km 227 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS still with the original owner, a Mississauga, Ontario resident who bought from the now-defunct Briar Wood Chevrolet in the Port Credit area of Mississauga. Powered by a 5.7 litre LT1 V8 engine, it is finished in black over a grey leather interior. Pride of ownership shows throughout – as examples in the cabin, the owner has placed “wraparound” style floor mats leaving no carpet exposed and the clean, uncracked dash is also covered with a custom cover. It is equipped with 17” five-spoke OEM alloy wheels wearing Impala centre caps, K&N branded air intake, power front bucket seats, trailer receiver with Chevrolet accenting, cruise control and air conditioning. This car comes with a clean Carfax and an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.

Finished in black, the car features a fibreglass Ram Air hood with a striking matte finish. The grille with single horizontal bar specific to the SS remains with a centred red Chevrolet emblem while a factory spoiler accents the trunk lid. A couple of custom touches appear below in the form of a receiver hitch as well as Borla exhaust with side exit outlets and polished tips. The paint has been treated to ceramic coating and Diamond Kote exterior protection has been optioned.

The stock polished 17” OEM wheels have a square set up and are lined in 275/50 V-rated Extreme Performance NT450 tires by Nitto which the owner relates were installed 2,000 km ago in 2022. Tokiko parts have been added to the suspension in the form of control arms while there is a four-wheel anti- lock braking system in place. Suspension is firmed up by the Hotchkis Performance brace in the engine compartment.

The grey leather is accented and given some punch by “SS” embroidery for all outboard occupants. Interior panels have been upgraded to simulated woodgrain for the dash face and console. Audio has been upgraded with a INE-W960 ALPINE head unit, trunk-mounted subwoofer box, amplifiers and speakers. Over head is a drop-down monitor for the reverse camera and custom sunroof. Comprehensive instrumentation includes a 260 km/h speedometer with a 7000 RPM tachometer to its left, a 5500 RPM red line showing for the latter. On the outside of the cluster are smaller gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The seller is the original owner and has driven the car under 62,000 since new, as indicated on the six-digit digital odometer.

The 5.7 litre V8 is an LT1 coded engine by General Motors. While similar, it is not identical to the LT1s equipped in a period Corvette or top-performing Camaro. The Impala SS was factory-rated at 260 horsepower and its LT1 is tuned for torque, appropriate for the bigger sedan, and rated at 330 lb.-ft. (The Corvette and Camaro LT1s are tuned more for horsepower at high revs.) The engine is fed by a sequential multi-port fuel injection system. Air charger is by KN and a transmission stall converter is equipped with a valve body upgrade. A FireBall performance coil is outfitted while intake and headers are by Edelbrock. Rear end positrac gears are also in place.

Getting the power to the rear wheels is handled by a General Motors 4L60E four-speed automatic. There is also a limited slip differential making up part of the performance package. The owner mentions that he has receipts to document all upgrades and maintenance on the car since new. For Ontario buyers – this car includes an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.
