75K km 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata 5-Speed Manual Convertible

Here is a 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata 5-Speed Manual Convertible with low mileage and in a condition that makes it quite evident that the car has been well cared for by its three owners since new.  The Miata was released for model year 1990 to great popular and critical acclaim.  It has been a great success story for Mazda from assembly of the first car in 1989 through four further generations as the model has matured.  This car is a first-generation NA car, with pop-up headlights, roadster body style and the initial design – a Miata in perhaps its most pure sports car form.  It even is presented in Classic Red, the factory name for the colour (Mazda code SU), arguably the most memorable shade of the early cars.  By the book, it is said to owe inspiration to the Lotus Elan, though there is a familiar quote about the early cars that they are much like an MGB though the Miata will not leave oil on your driveway.

The Classic Red paint retains a lot of its original lustre, belying the car’s age – though reflective of its low mileage.  The pop-up headlights are a period feature, they began to disappear from the automotive landscape soon after this NA car was released, attributable to changed headlight regulatory standards.  The 14-inch 7-hollow spoke wheels on this car are original, an upgrade from the Daisy Spokes on the base ’90 car and lighter than the 7-solid spokes also available in ’95.  They are lined in a set of 185/50 Cooper CS4 Touring tires installed in 2014, with approximately 29,000 km of experience.  Adding to the factory bright work on the exterior of the car are a chrome fuel door, chrome style bar and chrome retro luggage rack.  The nose of the car is protected by 3M paint protection film (visible in photo #22) and an aft-seat wind deflector is included.  One has to look very closely but a couple of flaws we have observed included a few very small stone chips on the nose and a very small dent over the passenger side rear wheel well, the paint over which remains intact – this was reported by the owner, we can’t find it in the photos.  We spotted some overspray on the muffler and surmise that the rear bumper was likely repainted for cosmetics.

1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata 5-Speed Manual Convertible

The interior of the MX-5 Miata is very clean in a contrasting black, with cloth seats, Miata-embroidered floor mats, door-mounted map pockets, twin cupholders and airbags for this two-place convertible.  Instrumentation is comprised of an 8000 RPM tachometer with 7000 RPM redline, 220 km/h speedometer with alternating smaller gauges for fuel, oil pressure and temperature.  Incorporated within the speedometer are both an odometer and a trip odometer, the former indicated a low 75,000 km.  Stalks for indicators with headlight control and windshield wiper/washer are mounted on the steering column.  Steering wheel is adorned with an aftermarket leather wrap.  Door sills, pedals and shift knob are in stainless steel, the shifter skirt is made of leather.  Stock AM/FM head unit has six preset stations and features a cassette deck.  Adding to ride comfort is a sound-deadening Hush Mat mounted to the underside of the trunk.

1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata 5-Speed Manual Convertible

Under the hood lies a very clean engine bay highlighted by 1.8 litre inline-four good for 128 horsepower (6500 RPM) when it rolled out of the factory.  At a curb weight of under 2300 lbs., this is more than enough power to get this Mazda where it is going.  Torque from this engine was rated at 110 lb.-ft., an upgrade from the earliest MX-5s which were built with a 1.6L.  There is a five-speed manual transmission to enable the driver to row through the gears of this rear-wheel drive roadster.  The car shows obvious signs of great care in ownership – some recent work is highlighted by a replaced clutch slave cylinder in 2014; replacement of the timing belt and water pump in 2017; and replacement of crank seal and two cam seals in 2017.  In preparation for the sale, the owner had a new valve cover gasket installed as well as an oil service – both in May 2023.  The inspecting mechanic suggested that flush-and-refills of clutch fluid, differential fluid and transmission fluid could be done next – without expressing any urgency.  Also, a small piece of the windshield casing has chipped off.  Owner will include service records accumulated during current ownership – they are photographed in the gallery.  Underneath, the car speaks to its garaged and fair weather only operation past – no corrosion visible.  As well, a clean Carfax is linked in the “CCC Vital Info” section.

@windchill – 111 is the sequential lot number, it has no connection to location. This car is in Chelsea, Qc, which you’ll see just under the lot number, and which is just across the River from Ottawa. Please arrange showings through the “contact seller” button. Thanks!

It says lot 111, does that mean it is in Burlington? If so, is the car available for viewing? Thank you.

@collectorcarcanada.ca – OK, I’ll stop my embarrassing questions. Sorry!

@Roccabar – thank you for following the auction. The owner has addressed the question to the best of her ability. Our listing also addresses it. Please make your own assessment based on the ownership time of the current owner and the clean Carfax. (Our Comment guidelines on the FAQ page govern the participation.)
thanks again!

Thank you for your answer. It’s certain that the vehicule has been repainted with the mist of red paint on the muffler in picture 54. But why?

Thank you for your query. I am unaware of any body work or collision involving the vehicle, and as per the CarFax statement provided, the vehicle has never been recorded in a collision.

Bonjour. Savez-vous pour quelles raisons le côté gauche/arrière a été repeinturé? Accident? Ou est ce une peinture pour l’esthétique?

My name is Valerie, Thank you for your interest in my 1995 Miata. I have recently retired and have plans to travel and will not have the time to enjoy driving this fun fabulous car. It is time for someone else to appreciate this roadster. If you have any questions, please contact me.
