No Reserve 1970 Rover P6 3500S V8, A Thrifty Thursday Offering

This 1970 Rover P6 3500S 4D is finished in White over a White with Black interior being offered at NO RESERVE. This four-door saloon is accented in chrome bumpers, bright window surrounds, and a chrome strip with a thin pinstripe running the length of the body. Its front fascia features an expanded grille with a “3500 S” badge and a “V8” emblem uniquely perched on the hood, while three functional hood scoops are a tell of air openings on the hood. The outer pair is in place to ventilate the engine compartment and the centre duct feeds outside air through the air cleaner to the twin SU carburetors. Fourteen-inch wheels are fitted with experienced 185/75 R14 Radial XH whitewall tires, and braking is handled by power-assisted discs at all four corners. There is noticeable evidence of body- and paintwork on the trunk lid near the GB emblem, carried out by the owner some decades ago. Inside, front bucket seats are trimmed in black leather with tan headrests and matching sand-coloured door cards that carry wood-veneer cappings. A wood-veneer dashboard is in place while the wooden centre console houses a floor-mounted shifter for the three-speed automatic gearbox. Equipment includes an AM/FM radio, manual windows, leather-wrapped adjustable two-spoke steering wheel with central Rover 3500 S emblem, and adjustable front seats. Instrumentation consists of a 140 MPH speedometer, a 6,000 RPM tachometer with a 5,200 RPM redline, and a five-digit odometer that shows under 10,000 miles (TMU).

The original aluminum 3.5-litre overhead-valve V8 is in place, having produced 210 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 RPM out of the factory. Induction is via twin SU carburetors, and power is sento the rear wheels via a 3.08:1 limited-slip differential. The V8 sits cleanly in the engine bay with space for maintenance access. Accompanying the sale is a binder with ownership records dating back to the ‘70s. It highlights a complete engine rebuild in 1983, documented with detailed handwritten notes, receipts and period photographs.

Important Notes: While this sedan was photographed by CCC, there was no battery in the car when we attended. So, it was neither started nor driven while we were on site. This car is offered as is, where is with no representations made by the owner beyond the photographs. The vehicle is to be collected from the photographed heated storage facility. It being a private home, no repairs can be carried out at the seller’s site.
