NO RESERVE – 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Hardtop Convertible Roadster

This 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Hardtop Convertible Roadster has history in Ontario and has been in the hands of the current owner since 2020 and for approximately 22,000 of its 224,000 km.  It is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over black anthracite leather – we submit is best described as charcoal.  It is powered by a 5.0 litre V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.  For Ontario bidders, this SL500 comes with an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.  It is equipped with a power-folding hardtop, bi-Xenon headlights, 17″ seven-spoke OEM Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels, fog lights, wood trim, heated power bucket seats with position memory and a Bose stereo sound system with CD changer, and COMAND with navigation.

This SL500 is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic and is equipped with a power-folding convertible hardtop, bi-xenon headlights with washers, fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and fender air vents. The convertible top mechanism was repaired in June 2023 and is free from fault.  Other repairs and maintenance during the current ownership tenure has included synthetic oil services, transmission fluid flush, replacement of valve cover gaskets, battery replacement (consumer battery in trunk), driver mirror indicator replacement, third brake light replacement, electrical parasitic draw diagnostic and resolution, ignition switch replacement, alignment, wheel bearing adjustment, transmission fluid seal and a headlight replacement.

The 17″ seven-spoke OEM alloy wheels wear 245/45 Bridgestone Potenza RE97 AS tires, V-rated. The car features Active Body Control (ABC) suspension – illustrated in a video – as well as an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Automatic Slip Control (ASR).  This SL500 is equipped with a roll bar that activates automatically when an imminent rollover is sensed, it can also be controlled by the driver via a switch near the top operation switch – also demonstrated in a video.  An integrated removable wind deflector is also included.

The heated multi-contour seats feature position memory settings and are upholstered in anthractie leather, while burl walnut wood trim richly accents the cabin.  Wear is noted on the outside bolster of the driver’s seat.  Mercedes-Benz-branded floor mats protect the carpets, and additional appointments include a CD-changer stereo with BOSE sound, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, an OEM phone system and COMAND with navigation.

The leather-trimmed steering wheel fronts a 260-km/h speedometer, a 6500 RPM tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 224K km, approximately 22,000 of which were added under current ownership. One crack is noted on the console burl wood trim just aft of the gear selector, which enables manual shifting of the electronic five-speed automatic.

The 5.0-liter M113 V8 was factory rated at 302 horsepower (5600 RPM) and 339 lb-ft of torque (2700 RPM). The consumer battery was replaced with a Mercedes-Benz unit in 2022, in addition to the extensive maintenance and repairs.  The owner notes surface corrosion on the driver’s side quarter panel, though the remainder and underside of the car are corrosion-free.  The front bumper cover was repainted in December 2021 to address stone chips.  One remains visible on the hood, though it has been touched up.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage beyond a glass claim when a branded Mercedes-Benz OEM windshield was installed and lists history in Ontario only  from new through the most recent entry in June 2023.
