No Reserve 2005 Mazda RX-8 6-Speed Manual, Inspected – a Thrifty Thursday offering

Now available on Collector Car Canada is this 2005 Mazda RX-8 6-speed manual finished in Velocity Red Mica over a two-tone black and red interior, and it is being offered with the additional excitement of No Reserve – the high bidder when the auction closes will be the car’s new owner. This RX-8 is a 4-door coupe, rear doors hinged in the rear, and powered by Mazda’s 1.3-litre RENESIS rotary engine paired to a 6-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.  The car is being offered by its eight-year owner through our White Glove service in Toronto, Ontario. As denoted in the headline, this is a Thrifty Thursday auction – a phrase we use for cars we sometimes get which are not quite turnkey. Velocity Red Mica (Mazda code 27A) is the factory colour. In our time with the car, given that the owner opted for our White Glove service, we have noticed touch-ups as well as various rust repair; we also suspect the front bumper has been repainted entirely. Please see close-up photos in the gallery. There have been various exterior modifications in the interest of both performance and cosmetics. Among the modifications are wide fender flares at all four corners, faux hood vents, and an aggressive front splitter with vertical supports. Extended side skirts and a subtle rear spoiler round out the custom aero package. A faux C-pillar vent detached during a recent wash (it has been retained and is included with the car) and exposed bumper reinforcement bars give the front end a track-inspired aesthetic. A glass power sunroof is equipped, with both tilt and slide functions as shown in the gallery and in videos, offering cabin light and ventilation.

The RX-8 rides on its stock five-spoke alloy wheels which have been partially painted to add black contrasting, and tire date codes are documented in the gallery. Should the new owner prefer the factory look (see a stock photo toward the end of our gallery), the rims merely need repainting. Front tires are Evergreen EU72 while a pair of Maxxis Victra Z4S are aft of the cabin – all four are 245/45R18 with respective “Y” and “V” speed ratings. The wheels complement the widebody-style fender flares and enhance the car’s aggressive stance. Braking is handled by four-wheel disc brakes, and underbody photos show no aftermarket suspension components. Headlight lenses have added trim and show some haziness, the bright lights are not currently operational, accounting for a warning light in the dash.

In the cabin, the black and red interior is of FF4 factory trim code. Leather bucket seats with red inserts are powered and heated, highlighting the performance feel, and aluminum pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and clean dash trim contribute to a cohesive driver-focused cabin. The driver’s seat shows wear, though no tears. Features include power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, and a factory AM/FM/CD stereo system. Power locks are equipped, the passenger door lock is not operational with the power system, lock can be operated manually/by hand. A Bose premium sound system is in place. Door panels, console trim, and carpets present in the red and black theme. One key will be included in the sale and the air conditioner is currently not blowing cold, seller suggested it needs refrigerant.

Fronting the driver-focused, tri-gauge instrument cluster is a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The centrally positioned tachometer dominates the layout, with a redline at 9,000 RPM and digital speedometer embedded at its base. The analog gauges to either side display coolant temperature and fuel level, while a digital multi-function display is found in the lower right. Switchgear and indicator lights appear clean and functional, with the exception of the radio backlighting non-operational – which does not affect head unit functionality.

Under the hood is Mazda’s 1.3-litre RENESIS rotary engine, factory rated at 238 horsepower, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine bay is in tidy condition and features a K&N cone intake filter shown in the gallery, the only modification noted under-hood. Our videos show an engine start, with several driving videos demonstrating the engine under load. The seller confirms modifications visible in the photos were installed under current ownership, which dates back to 2017. A mechanical inspection report is available and posted in the gallery for review.  There is a claim noted on the Carfax report, related to hail damage; three open recalls are also mentioned.
