1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster – SOLD for $20,000

This is a 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster still in the hands of the first owner outside of the original selling dealership – it was retailed to the dealer’s wife, then the current owner bought from the dealership in 1989 – and still showing its original paint.  The car is finished in Signal Red over Palomino leather and is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission; rear bench with seatbelts is finished in matching vinyl. Features include a limited-slip differential, the original black soft top, silver-finished 15″ Gullideckel alloy wheels, fog lights, the original Becker AM/FM/cassette stereo with removable face plate, electric windows, central locking, and automatic climate control. Work since 2018, when the car’s odometer read 109,000 km, has included wheel bearing adjustments, relay replacement to address high idle, dash light dimmer, a new antenna mast, a new battery and oil service.  This R107 shows 113,000 km and is offered with recent service records, manufacturer’s literature and a clean Carfax report.

The car is finished in Signal Red and features the original black convertible soft top – the condition of the manually-operated soft top is shown by close-up photos in the gallery. Additional features include quad headlights, fog lights, a power antenna, and chrome-accented bumpers and trim.  Our photographer shot the car and observed the power antenna not going down the day of the photo shoot.  Small paint chips in the finish are noted on the hood and aft of the top, all photographed in the gallery with a business card for perspective.

The 5.5-liter V8 was factory rated at 227 horsepower (4750 RPM) and 279 lb-ft of torque (3250 RPM).  While reputed as an elegant cruiser, it could get from zero to sixty in 7.3 seconds and complete the quarter mile in under 16 seconds.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
