Restored 1971 MG MGB Roadster 4-Speed Manual – SOLD for $4,750
Here is a 1971 MG MGB Roadster 4-Speed Manual that was purchased by the seller in 2017. It had been refurbished prior to the seller’s acquisition and was repainted in the glossy beige seen today. The copper-coloured vinyl upholstery on matching carpets is also the product of the refurbishment. This 1971 MGB is powered by a 1.8-litre inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Other equipment includes a black soft top, Rostyle 14″ wheels, Weber carburetors and a heater. This MGB is now offered with some service records/parts receipts, many spare parts as photographed, parade boot and a tonneau cover which protects the cabin from the elements while parked.
Features on the ’71 Roadster include a black soft top, a driver’s door-mounted mirror, triple windshield wipers, Viracon tinted glass, a recessed black grille with chrome framing and MG emblem and chrome-finished bumpers/bumperettes. The convertible top has two small slits, one measuring approximately ¼” and the second approximately ¾” near the driver’s side vinyl window. The included top boot and tonneau cover are pictured in the gallery below, the tonneau cover folded in the trunk.

Rostyle 14″ steel wheels have 185/70 Hercules Raptis TR1 tires mounted, T-speed rated with 2013 date codes. Tires were installed under previous ownership, owner believes in 2016. Braking is by front discs and rear drums. The car is equipped with a chrome luggage rack on the trunk lid. The photographed vintage suitcase is included with the car.
The cabin is upholstered in a copper-coloured vinyl, both on the seat coverings and door cards. The dash is finished in a contrasting black, as are many other interior accessories, and shows a split in the centre. The four-speed shifter is aft of a centre stack-installed British Leyland-branded AM radio, which the seller believes original; a functional interior light is in place above it. He notes that the radio works well when the manual antenna on the passenger’s side fender is raised. A USB charger appears plugged into the cigar lighter receptacle, the clean cigar lighter is photographed separately (and not missing). Floors are photographed in the gallery, with both the MG-branded black rubber mats and carpet-matching carpeted mats pulled up.
Original SMITHS instrumentation is in place behind the three-spoke MG-branded steering wheel. Speedometer has a maximum reading of 120 MPH, with a 7000 RPM tachometer (6000 RPM redline) to its left. From left to right and alternating with the tach and speedo are a fuel gauge, an oil pressure gauge and a water temperature gauge. The five-digit odometer reads under 9,000 miles and the owner believes it has rolled over once. Seller notes that the in-dash right indicator does not flash. At the time of his purchase in 2017, the odometer read just above zero, as indicated on the appraisal appearing in the gallery, so he has driven it approximately 8,000 miles.
The 1.8-litre inline-four was installed with twin SU carburetors and now runs down draft Weber carbs. It was factory rated at 95 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque. Videos appearing on our listing illustrate the engine running well and sounding good as the seller rows the 4-speed manual through the gears. Photos illustrate the clean and presentable condition of the engine compartment. Power is sent to the rear wheels. Photographed extra parts are included with the car, an incomplete list: trim, replaced carbs, ignition parts, lights, pumps. Owner has had recent maintenance done by a professional mechanic – oil change, wheel cylinders, brake hose, in June 2024 – and believes that the car will pass Ontario safety the way it sits today.
This 1971 MG MGB Roadster 4-Speed Manual is available with two keys, service manual, owner’s manual, some restoration documents, service records/parts receipts, many spare parts as photographed, parade boot, cloth car cover, anti-theft steering wheel lock, a tonneau cover and vintage suitcase with straps for the luggage rack from the seven-year owner in Glen Morris, Ontario – just outside of Cambridge.
