Sub-80K mile 1986 Ford Mustang LX Convertible

Here is a 1986 Ford Mustang LX Convertible which was purchased by the seller in 2019.  The current owner is a member of a Mustang enthusiast club and it has been enjoyed at various club events, even making an appearance at the famed Woodward Dream Cruise in 2019.  It is a US-market car originally from Florida, having been imported to Canada in 2009 and currently showing under 80,000 miles.  It is powered by a 3.8-litre Essex V6 engine connected to a three-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.  The car has been refinished in its original Sand Beige, this is over a Tan cloth interior.  The wheels have been upgraded to a 15” set of “Turbine” wheels from a later Mustang GT and it is equipped with a black convertible soft top, cruise control, an AM/FM/cassette stereo with premium sound package and air conditioning that blows cold along with power windows and door locks. This Mustang LX Convertible is now offered with the owner’s manual, original warranty documentation, some service records from current ownership, a soft top “parade boot”, and a collision-free Carfax report.

The car was refinished in its original Sand Beige under prior ownership and it is equipped with a power-operated contrasting black convertible soft top.  Additional features include dual halogen headlamps on either side, wrap-around protective black mouldings, a sport rack and a single exhaust exit.  The upper edge of the windshield displays a “MUSTANG” decal.  Various minor imperfections are illustrated in the gallery, including some scratching on each side’s rear quarter.

The Mustang GT wheels mounted on this car were original equipment on the 1987 – 1990 Mustang GTs.  White-lettered BF Goodrich T/A radials provide a sporty period look – the rears were installed 10,000 km ago in 2019, while the fronts are date-coded 2008.  Underneath, the front brakes are a disc system while the rears are drums.

There are bucket seats up front in the cabin, covered in tan cloth.  The dash, door cards, carpets and console are a match tan.  Features found in the interior include the premium sound system, power group, remote fuel filler release, remote trunk release, power steering, power brakes, tilt steering, cruise control, intermittent wipers and functional a/c.

There is an 85 MPH (140 km/h) speedometer fronted by a two-spoke steering wheel housing buttons to manage cruise control functions.  The 6000 RPM tachometer is adjacent and these two gauges are flanked by further instrumentation for fuel, oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage.  The five-digit odometer shows under 80,000 miles, the equivalent of approximately 129,000 km and corroborated by the Carfax history.

The 3.8 litre Essex V6 was factory-rated at 120 horsepower, generated at 3600 RPM, while torque checked in at 205 lb.-ft (1600 RPM).  This Mustang convertible has been well cared for, treated to extensive recent servicing.  The convertible top cylinders have been replaced within the past year, at which time the top itself was serviced and reinstalled, rear power window motors have been replaced and there was a recent oil change to prepare the car for the sale.  As well, a new battery was installed in May 2024.  And a nice bonus for the new owner is that the car was professionally detailed just before the photos were taken.  Also done during current ownership:  replacement of map pockets on doors as well as sun visors and brake proportioning valve, brakes bled and the rear tires were replaced in 2019, under 10K km’s have been driven since.  There is a non-collision vandalism claim from 2010 in the amount of $1,111 noted on the Carfax, following an estimate of $821.  With 10,000 km since purchase, owner expects it will pass Ontario safety as it currently sits.
