The exterior is finished in steel grey metallic, giving it an understated presence.  The R230 generation of SLs was released for the 2003 model year, the re-skin in place on this 2009 came to market for model year 2006 and modernized the look.  Gone was the double round headlight look shared across the marque, as were some of the Chrysler Crossfire-type accents on the fenders and hood.  The headlights took the shape of the C-class that followed for 2008 with fewer grille slats, a subtle spoiler was integrated into the trunk lid, if only for cosmetics and a diffuser became part of the rear bumper design.  This example retains its factory five-spoke wheels and the rear windscreen remains in place.  It also has the panorama roof which offers a view of the sky without taking the roof down all the way.

The two seats are covered in a matching ash leather.  Bose audio and Bluetooth integration are on offer, wood appoints the dash, steering wheel and door panels.  The head unit is also Navigation-capable.  An interesting Mercedes feature is included, the “only when needed” roll bar, which activates when sensors detect that a rollover is imminent.  (For those with trust questions, the car can be driven with the bar fixed in place.  Power options abound, of course, and the heated buckets are complemented with a cooling function.

Big V8 in a two-seater?  This car has power to spare.  Underhood is a 5.5L (up from a 5.0, pre-facelift) capable of 383 horsepower.  There is a 7-speed 7G-TRONIC auto slushbox connecting all of that power to the rear wheels, the conventional sports car layout.  It can be shifted with the autostick, with paddles or you can let the car do the shifting for you.  This car was recently reskinned in staggered Michelin Pilot all-season tires.  As well, brakes were changed at 81K km.  The seller does offer a 2017 Carproof but we would advise an investment in a current Carfax report – not infallible, certainly, but much better peace of mind than the 5-1/2 year old report.
