Mr. Malcolm Bricklin, The Founder

2024 05 10 posting Bricklin Cars and Malcolm Bricklin – “Dream Car” Book Launch Event, held May 9, 2024

Yesterday, we were treated to an extra-special event.  Mr. Malcolm Bricklin, of Bricklin Canada Ltd. fame, builder of the Bricklin SV1 from model years 1974 – 1976, appeared on the campus of the University of Toronto at a launch event promoting a book by Dimitry Anastakis, Professor and LR Wilson/RJ Currie Chair in Canadian Business HIstory.  The book is titled Dream Car and has been published 50 years after Bricklin began its short-lived manufacturing initiative of the Safety Vehicle 1 (SV1) in New Brunswick.  An oversimplified history is that when the provincial government money ran out, the company went bankrupt and the idea of New Brunswick as an upstart manufacturing mecca went with it.  Mr. Bricklin has enjoyed a varied career full of success, counting being Founder of Subaru of America and importing Yugo cars into the USA among its milestones.  Jil McIntosh of WomanonWheels.ca astutely moderated the discussion.  Thank you, Rotman School of Business for hosting this thought-provoking event recognizing Canadian automotive history.  The cars below belonged to attendees, prominently parked on campus in front of the event.
