CCC Back Lot price $12,500 + Buyer Premium 4.99% (Taxable)

Paint is BMW colour Atlanta Blue.  The car has been stored indoors so the paint retains good colour and shine.  Photos are taken with the top up, the extensive video was shot with the top down.  Light lenses, badging, door hinges and exhaust tips remain in very presentable condition, with the exception of the rear badge – replacements are available online for under $20.  One minor, noticeable door scratch on the lower driver door is visible – see photo #27.  Wheels are upgraded to BMW M-style with an BMW M sport crest, measuring 17” and free of marks or curb rash (stock wheels were 16”).  They are dressed in Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires which show good tread after 15,000 km of driving, though they are dated 2007.  The seller points out that they have always been stored indoors with the car and there is no evidence of dry rot.  Rear vinyl window does not appear brand new, as one would expect, though it remains in usable condition in case the car is driven with the top up.                                                                                             

The interior features black leather in a wraparound-style cockpit that is driver-focused.  The wood steering wheel with leather wrap at 9 and 3 is a nice appointment and a complement to the burl wood on the console and surrounding the leather shift boot, the factory AM/FM/cassette unit remains in place.  Although there is a “CD” label on the head unit, this is for the potential of an auxiliary unit – no CD player.  “Roadster” labels on the door sills continue the theme.  Passenger seat has a light tear near the seat belt buckle (visible in photo #71).  The features are extensive, heated seats on a 1997 convertible speak to this.

The 2.8L inline-six was rated at 189 horsepower when new, at 5300 RPM; with a curb weight in the neighbourhood of 2500 pounds, the powerplant makes for a favourable power-to-weight ratio.  Torque was rated at 203 lb.-ft (3,950 RPM) which adds to the get up and go and tells the story of this engine loving to rev.  The engine bay is clean, which supports the “fair weather only” owner report for usage of this BMW.  Beyond oil changes at a minimum of annually, given low mileage driven, a couple of major service items worth mentioning are a clutch replacement at approximately 90,000 km as well as and new brakes and shocks at approximately 112,000 km.

Owner reports zero visible rust and acknowledges that there are a few minor dings consistent with age – the photo gallery illustrates these, though one must look closely.  Underside photos present a clean undercarriage with only the slightest surface corrosion.  Owner reports that roof seals are not in mint condition but are water-tight; he has added a few dabs of silicone sealant to make sure.  The top does exhibit some wear areas but the car has not been used in rain so this has not impeded the car’s operation.  The most recent maintenance was an oil change in Summer 2021, the car has been driven very little since.  Owner has some service records on hand.

The owner has pointed out a couple of items that could benefit from attention by the new owner.  The rear trunk harness needs replacement, the owner has prices parts kit at approximately $50.  Also, the lift supports need replacement, as the trunk lid needs to be otherwise supported to stay up and the oil filter casing needs replacement.  The only item he believes might affect an Ontario safety is a small stone chip on the passenger’s side of the windshield – check with your shop.  Paint work on the car was carried out in 2000.  The car was rear-ended and pushed forward into the car in front.  Front and rear bumper covers were replaced as was the hood, which slipped under the bumper of the Cadillac in front – these items are reported to be the only non-factory paint.  The repairs were carried out by Budds BMW in Oakville Ontario – again, 22 years ago, and reported to Carfax in 2010; Carfax is a little dramatic about this incident – owner reports no structural damage, recalls that a new hood cost a small fortune and that the Budds body shop total was approximately $9,000.  Carfax also reports a potential odometer discrepancy which the owner attributes to human error when being asked vehicle mileage on the spot for licence renewals at ServiceOntario, given the car has an LED digital odometer.  In limited driving, owner has used it almost exclusively with the top down for several years and suggests that the a/c needs a charge  The other item the owner would do if keeping to car is conditioning the leather and repairing the small passenger seat imperfection.
