This 2012 Porsche Cayman R is finished in white, accented with a positive stripe on the side as well as a stripe extending through the centre of the car, front to rear spoiler. Inside, leather upholstery is black with contrasting red seat belts. Black wheels complete the look.
The Cayman R was produced in limited numbers. All featured the stripes as described and the fixed rear spoiler is a tribute to the 1967 911R – there were only 19 of this model built. The R’s 3.4 litre 24-valve flat-six delivers a bump of 10 horsepower over the Cayman S, to 330 at 7,400 RPM. The car is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. The drive wheels are in the rear and 0-60 can be had in 4.3 seconds.
Down from the S trim level is weight – the R shaves the mass, 121 pounds in all, the bulk of which by implementing aluminum doors, lighter seats (saving an incredible 26 pounds) and lighter wheels. Other noticeable but not as dramatic weight savings are in the strap-style door pulls and that non-motorized rear wing. This makes for a rare vehicle indeed, relative both to the competition as well as other Caymans. A mere 624 were produced, only 61 for Canada. Other distinguishing characteristics are a lower stance and a tighter suspension. Seller reports no track days and no body shop visits.
This car has travelled 42,000 km in its nine years and appears well cared for. Inside, the black leather seats show few signs of wear. The same can be said of buttons and switches, gone are the easy wear of the 997s. Floor mats also present well and the upscale interior is reminiscent of 911s, a prominent feature being the thick-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel.
