088 1999 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning 2-Door Supercharged Standard Cab Stepside Short Box Pick-Up Truck

Up for auction is this 1999 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning 2-Door Supercharged Standard Cab Stepside Short Box Pick-Up Truck.  It comes with some customizations, all reversible, the most noticeable of which is the livery of “The Racer’s Edge” a decal kit tribute to a speed shop in the famed Fast & Furious movies, a favourite of many car people.

SVT refers to Ford Motor Company’s Special Vehicle Team operations, originating in 1991 with a mission of creating vehicles to satisfy the unique desires of the knowledgeable driving enthusiast and core values of Performance, Substance, Exclusivity and Value (Source:  Ford Motor Company).  The SVT series denotes the halo vehicle of a certain model, this Lightning is the halo vehicle of the F-150 truck, the F-series being Canada’s best-selling vehicle for over 50 years.  With our site focusing on the Canadian market, we would be remiss were we not to mention that the tenth generation Lightnings were Canadian manufactured, in Oakville, Ontario – even the one appearing in the movie!  This truck is being offered by the estate of the late enthusiast owner, it is being represented by a long-time car friend of his and the estate will be handling the particulars of the sale transaction.

CCC Back Lot price $24,000 + Buyer Premium of 4.99% (Taxable)

The finish of this Lightning is Bright Red, one of three colours available for the distinctive model.  In addition to “The Racer’s Edge” livery, there are other upgrades to the exterior in the form of 2004 headlights and grilles – the headlights are a clearer finish and the 2004 grilles were a personal preference of the owner; there is also a tonneau cover over the 6-1/2” bed.  The original grilles are included in the sale, as shown in the photo gallery, the original headlights do not accompany the truck.  Differentiators from the non-Lightning F-150s included:  unique front fascia; unique front lower air deflectors; unique upper and lower grilles; integrated, round fog lamps; unique lower box moldings; unique cab rocker mouldings; and unique wheels and tires.  Those 18” wheels with SVT centre caps remain with the car, with the currently installed Nitto NT555 performance tires measuring 295/45 up front and 305/45 in the rear.  The seller has had a new set of Nitto rear tires installed since photo day, the last step for it to pass Ontario safety check (Ontario bidders, take note!).  Other finishes on the truck specific to the SVT are the fender “Lightning” emblems; the SVTOA decal on the Carlite windshield, non-factory and a sign of an enthusiast; the Flowmaster side pipes; and SVT emblem on the tailgate (the SVT plate frame currently mounted on the rear is included).  The step-side box is another indication that this is not just another truck for the job site.  Light flaws we notice are uneven paint on the grilles as well as superficial cracks on the fog light lenses.  Seller’s rep notes that the tailgate has been repainted.

Inside are more signs that this is no utility truck, it treats its driver and passengers to extensive creature comforts.  The 60/40 split bench is charcoal micro-suede with contrasting vinyl inserts for driver and outboard passenger, with the SVT logo embossed below the headrest.  When the centre seat is unoccupied, the large arm rest can be folded down while providing generous storage and cupholder within.  Driver’s seat controls are primarily power complemented by manual controls for recline as well as fore/aft; the WeatherTech mats seen in the photo gallery are included with the truck.  The cabin boasts white-faced gauges, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, factory AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo, power windows, power locks, cruise control, air conditioning that blows cold, .  Under the vinyl form-fitting tonneau cover, the bed is carpet-covered.  Looking closely at the photo gallery, interested users will notice two aftermarket gauges mounted on the inside of the driver’s side A-pillar, measuring fuel mixture and supercharger boost – the original cover for the A-pillar is included and photographed in the gallery should the new owner want to return to the stock look.

While some of the cosmetic touches provide some of the sizzle for SVT vehicles, the powerplants are more what SVT is about.  This truck’s clean engine bay is fitted with a 5.4L Triton V8 engine with intercooled supercharger originally rated at 360 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque (at 4750 and 3000 RPM, respectively).  This truck has been upgraded with a new supercharger pulley, air box cover and MAF.  All of the original parts are packed in a box that will be in the truck’s bed on delivery.  Getting the power to the rear wheels is a Modified (by Ford, at the factory) 4R100 4-speed automatic transmission with OD lockout.  Other SVT factory upgrades from other F-150s include Eaton Detroit Locker Rear Differential;  Auxiliary transmission fluid cooler; Eaton M112 supercharger; Engine super cooling system; and a Heavy duty battery (since replaced).  The underside houses the Firestone Wilderness spare and shows only surface rust, very nice for the first year of 10th generation F-150.  Heavy duty front and rear shock absorbers are in place, another part of the Lightning SVT package.  The car was subject to a general inspection with the safety check and the rear tires were the only item recommended for attention.  The late owner was a Ford enthusiast and considered fastidious about maintenance by fellow members of the Golden Horseshow Mustang Association.  However, we do note an open recall on the Carfax, something that will be resolved at no charge by any Ford of Canada dealer.  Again, for Ontario bidders’ attention:  this truck comes with a valid Ontario Safety Standards Certificate.
