This example is a U.S.-market vehicle, imported by the seller in June 2020. All taxes and importation duties were paid at that time. Seller imported the car from Georgia, where it enjoyed a salt-free life. Originally delivered by Karl Knauz Motors BMW in Lake Bluff, IL, the previous owner speculated that it was originally driven under a 3-year lease, during which time approximately 50,000 miles were logged. The second owner was an enthusiast and a member of BMWCCA, the BMW Car Club of America. This owner logged under 30,000 miles over the following approximately 15 years. A BMWCCC plaque appears in the gallery and will be included in the sale. Service records are on hand and filed in a three-ring binder, where is also found the original vehicle invoice.
Seller believes that the car has not been driven in winter since the original three-year lease and it has had no Canadian winters as the seller stored it when the weather changed. This shows through in the car’s appearance. Titan silver paint is largely unblemished and retains a bright shine. Brightwork and BMW shadowline trim also gleam in the light.
The Montana leather has stood up well to its 20 years. There are no tears and very little sign of wear. Black leather is employed on the rim of the multi-function steering wheel, handbrake handle and shift boot. All pixels in both the cluster and centre stack (BMW Business CD radio and HVAC controls) are in fine working order. No “dead” pixels are noted, a common sight on other E39s. The car is optioned as one would expect from a modern 5-series. All interior controls are powered, including sunroof, windows, the heated seats and tilt steering wheel; all of these are programmable with the seat position memory, which offers three settings. Premium sound on the BMW Business head unit offers Church, Jazz Club and Concert sound settings for music. Cruise control and automatic climate control are also in place.
The generous trunk was pre-wired at the factory for a BMW 6-CD changer. It is also the location of the battery, BMW-branded and purchased in March 2021. Underneath the trunk’s cargo floor is a full-sized spare tire on a fifth Style-66 M-sport rim. The drop-down tool tray is complete.
The Carfax is clean – no accidents – and regular maintenance entries support the slow and steady accumulation of mileage to come to today’s odometer reading of under 86,000 miles.

Happy Fathers Day, everyone. And welcome to my auction, I am the seller. Thank you for the early bids!
This E39 is in wonderful condition – it pulls strong, shifts smoothly, presents well and the interior doesn’t show any flaws. Even the pixels in the displays in dash, for the radio and the HVAC controls all work – this is a known problem area for these cars.
It is currently at my regular indie’s shop for a safety check so Ontario buyers, know that this is taken care of before you buy. I will pick it up Monday and can take any more underside photos anyone might like OR get answers to in-depth mechanical questions. I know and love the car but am not a licensed tech.
