1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Coupe 4-speed manual

This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle 4-speed manual is our Sunday cruiser this week.

It is a two-door coupe with period wheels.  The red paint helps it stand out and the black vinyl interior is a complement which pegs it at the period.

Under the hood lurks a replacement crate engine.  It is a GM 350 c.i. V8 the seller indicates has powered the car for fewer than 3,000 km.  Sadly, it is camera-shy.  The transmission is a four-speed manual and sends the power to the rear wheels.

In addition to the updated crate engine, the seller mentions several other service items.  Most notably, suspension parts have been updated.  Upper control arms, up and down, as well as lower control arms have been replaced.  Also on the suspension, coils and an air system have been installed in the rear.  An extension of the suspension to the road, the tires are also new.

We notice an “SS” badge on the grille and in the rear as well as Super Sport badges on the rear sides.  The seller does not mention anything about it being SS trim, which makes us wonder.  With the updated engine, much of the SS mystique is gone anyway.  But, even so, an authentic SS trim car would make it more desirable on the collector market.  Something about which to inquire!

Chrome bumpers and trim retain a nice shine and help make the red paint pop.  White letter tires add to the ‘60s muscle car vibe.  The same can be said about the vented hood.

Inside there are bucket seats in the black vinyl.  We notice two cupholders and figure they MUST be aftermarket.  There is an add-on tachometer and the large-diameter, small grip circumference steering wheel with half-circle chrome horn control scream 1960s.  There is not much mention of options in the seller’s ad but we figure it is pretty light on equipment, given the crank windows.  Fuzzy dice are a nice touch on a “stripper”, though!
