1950 Ford F-1 Resto-mod Pick-Up Truck
This is a 1950 Ford F-1 Resto-mod Pick-Up Truck which has been under the care of the current owner for approximately six years. He bought it from a seller in Winnipeg as a project and has carried out a lot of work on the truck to bring it to its current level of mechanical condition and reliability.
Most notably, the truck is running a new crate engine – GM 350 bored out to 355 cubic inches – installed in the past 5,000 km. Please review the mechanical specifications later in the listing, there is a lot more to this truck – power steering and power brakes for starters. He has used it primarily for shows and cruise nights, having driven it on a major highway to the recent Rodmasters show we attended last weekend without incident, approximately 120 km round trip. The truck carries an authentic patina finish with faded but visible Indian Motorcycle livery.

The body possesses a legitimate patina finish with suggestions of both red and green paint in the past, by the door frames and door frames, we figure this truck was originally red. The flare sides and running boards are a strong hint to the prevailing style of the period. While the steel panels carry the revered distressed look, the chrome is quite good, accenting the grille, hood openings, hood edges, headlight frames, vent window frames and exterior mirrors. The chrome “FORD” script on the front of the hood is missing the “R”. Excepting the rear windshield, glass is good; we note a “Laminated Safety Glass” inscription on the windshield as well as functional vent and conventional windows on the doors – all four of which open and close easily. The rear glass is cracked, which adds to the distressed look and it is accented by an Indian Motorcycle decal. Bed floor is distressed wood. All truck lights work, as photographed, though the driver’s side-mounted spotlight did not illuminate on picture day. The truck rides on a set of custom American Racing wheels, skinned in older Michelin 225/60R16 tires at all four corners. Artistic pinstripe accenting can be seen throughout the truck’s exterior.
Inside, the owner has carried out some updates to raise the functionality of the truck. Most notable to the eyes, a gauge package has been installed as well as a 60/40 split bench seat with centre console offering storage. Most notably for summer cruising, vintage air conditioning is on offer and it blows cold. AutoMeter instrumentation includes a 190 km/h speedometer with digital odometer and trip odometer, fuel gauge, water temperature gauge, voltmeter and oil pressure gauge. They are surrounding by a chrome facing on the steel dashboard. The gauges were installed soon after the owner bought the truck and the odometer started at zero. It now reads 9500 km. The gauges sit behind a period two-spoke steering wheel, the column houses the automatic shifter as well as stalks for indicator lights and tilting column. The truck carries a modern Kenwood head unit with remote supported by a pair of Clarion speakers mounted fore of the doors and a power antenna. Dash also houses a lighter outlet, ashtray and a recommissioned glove box housing a/c components. An original Ford data plate containing engine number remains mounted on the inside of the glove box door. Seats are manually adjustable, lap belts are furnished. Headliner and sun visors were also replaced by the owner and remain in nearly new condition.
Then engine bay houses a stroked Chevy 350 cubic-inch V8 crate engine which has been bored out to 355 c.i. It has only powered the truck approximately 5,000 km (installed with approximately 4,000 km on the odometer). It is mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. For those who believe the Chevy valve covers look out of place on this truck, please note that the owner has commissioned a set of Edelbrock valve covers which he will include when received – chalk it up to current supply chain challenges – and which will match the Edelbrock-branded air cleaner. The TH-350 has also been rebuilt – with remaining warranty – and shifts smoothly, as seen in the driving videos. The double-size aluminum radiator is a new unit in the past 5,000 km – owner advises that the part alone was $1,800 and that the truck runs cool. Overall, this truck carries a tidy engine bay, with clean components showing little wear, supple hoses and belts as well as polished surfaces. A 12-volt Carquest battery is fitted.
The undercarriage of the Ford is clean, please see the photos in the gallery. The truck is fitted to a Chevy S-10 frame. Underneath are the dual exhaust outlets fed by custom headers – the exhaust “drops” to open headers and we encourage you to listen to the sound of the truck in the videos. Braking is handled by discs up front and drums in the rear. Another constructive upgrade the owner has carried out is a posi rear end.
