1967 Buick Skylark 2-door Hardtop, Restored
Here we have a recently restored 1967 Buick Skylark 2-door Hardtop, a collectible that presents beautifully in fresh burgundy paint after extensive body recommissioning and paint in the Spring of 2022. Its Custom vinyl top is also in excellent condition, suggesting indoor storage. It starts easily and runs smoothly. Please see the videos. The paint colour of burgundy remains true to original, it was originally delivered in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania in Burgundy Mist (GM paint code “N”). Interesting provenance accompanies the car, including the original State of Pennsylvania title issued to a Philadelphia resident in October 1966 as well as the original Bill of Sale in the name of this same party on the letterhead of Fowler-Shinn Buick. There is also the original dealer order form, showing that the deposit was paid by a $50 traveler’s cheque. These documents are included in the photo gallery.

The burgundy paint looks new, as one would expect from a paint job completed in May of this year. The body refurb and paint work was carried out over the past winter by Hasson Collision, a well-known Guelph shop. Photos of the work underway are included in the gallery. Chrome and brightwork are also very presentable – glossy, not dull. The chrome bumpers, grille and headlight surrounds complement the burgundy for a tidy presentation and correct emblems remain installed. There is a driver’s side exterior mirror, also finished in chrome. A retractable radio antenna is also in place. The dealer invoice notes deluxe wheel covers, though the car is riding on 14-inch mags emblazoned with the Buick logo. Mounted on the mags is a set of Blackwall 205/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires which were mounted in September 2021, so very little mileage on them. Wheel skirts are in place over the rear axle, they combine with the Custom vinyl top to give this Buick a sharp period look.
The black interior presents well, free of tears or rips – the shop carrying out the body and paint work also repaired the front bench. The three-spoke steering wheel reflects Buick design of the period and fronts instrumentation with a sweeping 120 MPH speedometer. To the left of the speedometer are a fuel gauge as well as warning lights for Oil, Temperature and Voltage. Below are knobs for lights, wipers and cigarette lighter, with a column-mounted shifter. Vertical sliding controls for HVAC separate the speedometer area of the dash from the stock AM radio. While a/c and the AM radio are in place, both of these items are in need of repair to bring this car to top-shelf, these are the only items the owner reports as needing attention. Period-correct for GM, the Frigidaire a/c compressor is pictured in the gallery and all a/c components remain installed except the drive belt. Owner has installed an LCD digital clock on the dash and the Skylark logo on the dash’s passenger side is a striking accent. The five-digit analog odometer shows just below 5,000 miles, true mileage is unknown.
The powerplant of this Hardtop is a 300 cubic inch Buick V8. A Super Turbine 300 two-speed automatic transmission gets the power to the drive wheels in the rear. A Rochester two-barrel carburetor originally delivered fuel to the small block to generate 210 horsepower at 4400 RPM, supported by a prodigious 310 lb.-ft. of torque (2400 RPM). The engine was tuned in Autumn 2021 by Norm’s Esso, a long-time relied upon shop in Guelph. Details of the tune include spark plugs and wires as well as vacuum advance. Factory power steering adds to the driver package. As well, the owner has installed a brake booster to equip this Skylark with power brakes.
The body plate remains on the firewall and is pictured in the gallery. It decodes as follows:
08D – built in August, fourth week.
67 – Model year 1967
44417 – 4 for Buick division, 4417 for Skylark 2 dr. hardtop coupe
BAL – Assembly plant, Baltimore.
N2 – Burgundy Mist paint, 3-seat (bench)
Trim colour – 168 Black
