SOLD under the CCC Second Chance System for $13,000 – 1990 Ford Mustang Cobra GT Convertible 5-speed manual

This 1990 Ford Mustang GT remains for the most part stock and has travelled 147,000 km.  It was delivered to its original owner in Alberta and also spent time in and British Columbia before coming to Ontario in 1997.  The car has been repainted to a driver standard in its original Ford Bright Red #M6346.  Providing contrast to the bright red paint are a white roof and an exceptional, bright white leather interior with red and black accents.  The top is power-operated and its operation is demonstrated in a video linked just before the gallery.  Further iconic badging on the outside includes the Ford trunk and front-end ovals, the legendary 5.0 fender badges and the unique Cobra decal on the trunk lid – unique in that it was placed only on Canadian-market GTs of the period.

One modification from new is the Pony wheels, stock for the 1991 – 1993 Mustang GT.  Their 16-inch size makes tire selection easier than for the original 15-inch turbine wheels.  To this end, the car is outfitted with Cooper Ziex RS3-A tires measuring 225/55 and W-speed rated.  They were installed in 2019 and have rolled fewer than 5,000 km.  The original 15s are included in the sale.  There is also a spare trunk lid with luggage rack included in the sale.  Looking closely at the photos, one can see minor bubbling in the installed trunk lid.  So the new owner can change this out if desired, the spare requires paint matching.
The story of these cars is the legendary 5.0 Litre engine.  Measuring 302 cubic inches on the Imperial scale, it is known for its thunderous growl, heard through the stock Flowmaster exhaust system.  Though its horsepower rating, at 225, is much lower than modern Mustangs, combining with the 300 lb.-ft. of torque ensures the driver gets to his destination with alacrity, if desired.  This example adds to the powerful feel by mating the engine to the 5-speed manual.  Power gets sent to the rear wheels.  Not known for fuel economy, as with most performance cars, it is a saver at the pump because it runs on 87 octane gasoline – rare for a performance car.
Inside the car is well-optioned.  The leather has stood the test of time well, better than most Mustang vinyl and cloth of the era.  This is the first year of an air bag for the model.  Power top, power windows, power locks and power lumbar are optioned.  Cruise control, original factory AM/FM/cassette and air conditioning make for comfortable interior surroundings.
The trunk is clean and retains its original grey fabric trim.  The parade top, which covers the roof when in the down position and in place in most gallery photos, is normally stored withing the labelled container appearing in trunk photos.  Underneath the trunk floor is a spare tire with jack.
In 2020, the car was treated to new head gaskets – a major job, the work order for which is included in the gallery.  Other work in the past two years includes a new power window motor, air conditioning work including recharge and dryer (a/c blows cold), new water pump, new timing cover gasket set, rad hoses, new coolant level sensor, driver door and headlight switch.  New floor mats and moulding trim stripe (2021) are also in place.  Other documentation in the gallery includes a genuine Marti report for the car as well as original manuals and receipt for the spare trunk lid, owner even still has his fuel receipts.
Beyond the original 15” turbines and extra trunk lid, also included in the sale are a car cover, original floor mats, a fresh “Cobra” sticker for the trunk lid (as pictured in the incumbent) and two sets of keys.  There is a clean Carfax included in the gallery.  While it raises the possibility of odometer discrepancies, the owner believes these to be attributable to clerical error.  No accidents or damage are noted on the Carfax.
